Search your books based on other tags or reviews

Is there a way to search books in your library based on key words found in other users reviews and tags? I want to be able to upload my books and then search for key words that are not the title or author without adding comments and tags to each book. Basically want to find books based on their plots without having to add my own comments: using only other people's reviews and tags.

Thanks!

Sure. Each work page collects the tags that others have used. So, for instance, The Best of Mrs. Beeton's Household Tips has the relevant tags 'housekeeping' and 'home arts.' You'll notice the size difference of the font. That merely reflects the number of times the tag has been used on this work. Both tags give you a nice long list of other books tagged the same.

If you want to restrict this search to books in your own library, though, there are a couple options.

If you do a search on a tag (say time travel), the books in your library will show up with checkmarks. Useful if your books are in the top dozen or so, less so otherwise.

There's also a feature called "tag mirror" visible from your profile page:

https://www.librarything.com/profile_tagmirror.php?view=MEMBERNAME

This shows the tags other members have used most frequently on books in your library. Clicking on a tag here will bring up a list of all the books in your library that other members have tagged that way. As long as the tag you're interested in is in the top thousand that members have used on some books in your library, it will show up here.

If you want to search for two tags at once separate them by a comma
bear, honey
then search, search tags and say you want a tag mash.

Thank you! Is there any way to do something similar to tag mirror for reader reviews or comments? I'd like to be able to search for key words such as character names that might be in reviews and be able to identify books that way as well. Thanks for the help!

To be honest, your search will find anything when you go into the search system. Doesn't matter where the item you search for is, UNLESS you narrow your search. Though it also will not narrow the books found if you search for common names like John or Sarah. You'll get 10s of thousands of books, movies, comics, graphic novels, etc.

If looking for your own books, you'd be better off adding your own personalizing details.
If looking for recommendations for other books, this search idea may or may not help you.

For character names odds are better to search CK. If a book has more than 1-2 reviews, it most likely has characters entered in CK
