Franklin/Oxford Library of the World's Great Books

Greetings! I hope I'm in the right place. Recently, a lot of 13 lovely books from the Franklin Library/Oxford University Press Oxford Library of the World's Great Books fell into my hands. To my eyes, most of them appear to be in quite good condition. After weaseling around on the internet for a few hours (which surely must make me an expert) I believe they might all be in full leather binding. Each book has a sewn-in satin ribbon page marker and the page edges are gilded. Some have silk moire fabric endpapers, others have marbled endpapers. I am a book collecting novice and new to the Franklin Library, but I understand that these editions are harder to come by and somewhat coveted. If that's the case, I'd like to find them a new home. I was hoping you guys might be able to help me get an idea for the edition/condition/general value of these books, or point me in the direction of some more information. That would be really helpful.

:) thanks

>1 rkerwick: the best thing is to look up each book on eBay, current and past sales. The damaged book is not worth much, but the others if they are truly the full leather Oxford edition and if they are in near mint condition could be worth $75-$150 each. Some of the more coveted novels in this collection, such as Moby Dick, can sell for considerably more.

I have a franklin library signed first edition book that doesn't have a signature. It states that it has been signed and I even have the publisher note that came with the book. It seems to me that it's a big mistake on franklin library's part but I can't find another one like it. Does anyone know anything??

It's official, I'm jealous of the OP.. I wish I had 13 copies of the Oxford editions in pristine condition just fall in lap.. such gorgeous books.

>6 Lector_librorum: I wish I had 50 copies still in shrink wrap, of course to sell. The finest library ever published by Easton Press or Franklin Library.

Publishers sometimes print a few copies of their limited editions without signatures or numbers to keep as office copies or to give to their friends. These copies eventually make their way into the secondary market at reduced prices. Publishers should acknowledge these extra copies up front, but usually don’t.
