Hello, newbie here and I have run into a problem. I have been listing my books over the last several days and never paid attention to the ISBN and other such numbers. A lot of my books do not have those as they do not have dust jackets, and are late 1800's. So, this one book I am trying to add is not even listed on this site. So I thought by picking a book with a similar title, I could change the ISBN number. Well, that is not working. Before I continue adding my books I would like to figure out how to add this book. Can anyone help?

It doesn't matter whether or not the book is listed on the site, as LT is not a source for entering books.

You can use the title and/or author to look for the book in sources that you think might have it. (Amazon is NOT a good source for older books.)

You can enter the book manually. On the Add Books page, look on the left down below the sources for the link. I find it is faster to enter a book manually than to edit a bad entry. It is also much less likely to be autocombined into the wrong work.

You will have a better catalogue if you check as you go along that titles and authors are in good form. Titles should avoid extra material. {(Tom Brown's Field Guide to Wilderness Survival)} {By (author) Tom Brown} published on (April, 1989) would be better as Tom Brown's Field Guide to Wilderness Survival. (I replaced the square brackets with curly brackets so that they would be visible and not disappear into a touchstone.) A single author should be in the author field in the form Last, First. If there are multiple authors they can be added to Other Authors.
