Nice!
I own this edition, and it is one of my favorite editions of the Novella.

Lovely article and photographs of a splendid book and an example of flawless book design, from the fine black cloth covered binding, the grey-colored pages, and Angela Barrett's moody, atmospheric illustrations tipped into the book. Toss in Phil Abel's characteristically expert letterpress printing and - VOILA!! - you have a jewel of a book. The same can be said with regard to his edition of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, also illustrated by Angela Barrett. And fans of The Wind in The Willow can anticipate an edition from Hand and Eye Letterpress later this year.

I've got one of these on it's way to me at the moment, really looking forward to seeing it in person. Love the illustrations.

A very nice book, indeed. I've been on the fence about this edition for a while. What keeps me on the fence is the LEC edition, of which I am quite fond. If anyone wishes to sing the Hand & Eye edition's praises vis-a-vis the LEC edition, I will listen.

Does anyone have or has anyone seen the large-format special edition?

I think that the LEC edition of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is one of the best editions of this work. In my opinion, in this novella, Edward Wilson was at his best as an illustrator. There are many illustrations in the LEC edition, some in black and white and some others in reddish "monochrome" - all very appropriate and very moody.
LEC happens to be another one of my favorite editions of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. If you already own it, getting the Hand and Eye edition will not be an upgrade, in my opinion - just another acquisition of a nice fine edition. LEC is a much larger book in comparison, though still very comfortable to read. Hand and Eye edition is a small book.
I own both, but I purchased H&E book before I had a chance to get the LEC version.

>8 booksforreading: Thank you for the information and helpful comparison. I think I will stick with the LEC edition. On a side note, I own the H&E edition of the Christmas Carol, and it is a delightful little book that is well worth acquiring.

Looks like a very nice design binding, on larger paper (though same size content), for £950.

>9 ultrarightist: do you have the limited edition with hand coloring, or the standard edition?

I've just caught up with this thread. It's really nice to see our Jekyll & Hyde here, and the nice words are much appreciated. The standard edition sold out some time ago - I don't know about the specials from Shepherds - but we still have four copies of the Christmas Carol standards.

There's also the underrated Centipede Press edition with engravings by Barry Moser. Not letterpress, but quite nice.

Yes! I missed that one - at the time it came out, I had not been familiar with Centipede Press.
