Please nominate up to two books you’d like to have as our group reads for April and May, and second as many nominated books as you like.

I’ll start a poll in about a week if required.

Looking for something that is relatively short and neither intense nor depressing, I nominate War with the Newts and Cider With Rosie.

I have had The Mandarins on my list for a while. My second choice would be The heart of redness

I will second Cider with Rosie. I agree with the desire to read something gentle and not too intense at the moment, so I have pulled Cold Comfort Farm and Christmas at Cold Comfort Farm from my shelves for a reread. Hope everyone is keeping well.

I like the idea of a couple of shorter reads but I have read both the ones already listed so I will nominate Mr. Norris Changes Trains by Christopher Isherwood and Excellent Women by Barbara Pym.

I'm trying to read more European authors for a challenge elsewhere. How about Homo Faber or The Third Wedding Wreath?

I'll second Homo Faber, it's on my TBR shelf.

I have none of the books mentioned on my TBR pile and my library will be closed for the next while. I hope it won't extend into May but I'm sure some of April it will be closed. So I am going to nominate a book that I have on my TBR pile Cannery Row. A novel set during the Great Depression might make us feel that we are far better off than we think.

I’ll second Cannery Row. I’ve been meaning to get to it for a long time.

I have read Cannery Row but just realised that there is a sequel. I now have a copy of Sweet Thursday so I was going to read both in the near future.

I won't nominate or second any because I have a horrible record of actually participating, but I do check in periodically to see what is coming up.

I'll second War with the Newts and third Homo Faber.

Most votes were cast for Mr Norris Changes Trains so that will be our April group read.

For May we had four books tied in second place. I have set up a poll for these:

As usual I will reserve my vote for use only in the event of another tie.

The resuts are here:

https://poll.pollcode.com/21671842_result?v

The poll will close in a week
