I have a commute to work which includes half an hour on a train (ALWAYS) with a book, so far this year I have read The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern. I absolutely adored it!!!! Although I can imagine that it isn't everyone's cup of tea.
I like to chart what I read, as it makes an interesting pattern of where my mind / interests turn to and from over the course of a year.

It is a grey damp January here in England (Doncaster / Wakefield) and needing something bright, sunny and entertaining, I have just finished reading Miss Fisher Investigates by Kerry Greenwood. I look forward to reading the rest of the series!

I have recently joined Doncaster Natural History Society and at their AGM I purchased Butterflies of Doncaster District. An interesting and useful read. Extremely well researched.

Flying too high by Kerry Greenwood has been my fourth read of 2020 and my second Miss Fisher. Not as good as the first story, but still enjoyable and light with some great characters. A surprising number of typos in the text. However, I feel that after so much froth I need my next read to be a little more substantial !

I have just finished China, Trade and Power: Why the West's Economic Engagement has Failed by Stewart Paterson. A fascinating read and very well researched and written. My only criticism would be that I found it too short, but maybe the author had said all he felt that he needed too.

English Country House Murders by Thomas Godfrey was a Christmas present from my wonderful husband. He knows that I am a huge Agatha Christie fan and collector of different editions - he's seen the groaning bookshelves! This collection was enjoyable but mixed in quality. Christie was (of course) wonderful as was Ruth Rendall and P.G.Wodehouse. Worth a look.

Just finished another Christmas present Evil Roots: Tales of the Botanical Gothic edited by Daisy Butcher. I really enjoyed this, particularly being both a keen gardener and a lover of Gothic - fortunately I don't own or intend to grow any killer plants myself! I shall definitely search out more of The British Library's Tales of the Weird ...
This was book Number 7 of 2020.
