Have been thinking about a new challenge for 2020.

Let me know what you think about the ‘Separated by a Pond Tour’:

As a group, aim to try to visit all the States in the US, and all the counties in the U.K. (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland). If my research is correct there are 50 States in the US, 48 counties in England, 12 regions or Island Areas in Scotland, 13 Historic Counties of Wales, and 6 counties of Northern Ireland, 129 in total. (There are 33 counties in Scotland but I thought it would be easier to find books if we used the 12 Regions / Island Areas).

Don’t know if we’d be able to find books for all these areas but it would be fun finding out, and help improve our Geography of each other’s countries. This could act in tandem with Brenda’s ongoing ‘Americana Series Monthly Challenge’.

We could specifically target the counties/states or just mark off these areas as any one of us comes across them in books, (each book only counting for one place).

Overall, the aim as a group would be to try and visit each of these areas once, and / or we could also have our own threads where we each tried to visit as many of these areas as we can get to.

Hopefully this would be a fun challenge as every book we read is set somewhere, I’d not expect everyone to visit every place! 🙂

Interested to hear your thoughts....

>1 Andrew-theQM: I like it. Maybe if you could make and post the list for us to go by...we could post you the book and you could add it to the list...much as we did for the last challenge. There would be only one major list and we could see if the book was already listed before posting it for you. You might want to consider including the Providences of Canada and the Irish Republic as a part of the list??? I'm sure that it will be fun whatever we so.

>2 Carol420: You’re a mind reader Carol, as I was going to ask about Canada and the Republic of Ireland. I will add them in. Also was thinking to add a list for us to work off. Definitely needed so we all know the states, counties, provinces, etc.

Thanks for the feedback.

>3 Andrew-theQM: You are welcome. One thing I am really good at... as all of you have probably noticed...is giving my opinion:)

I'm learning a lot from Brenda's Americana Challenge, so it would be interesting to add Canada to my knowledge base, too. I'm also ashamed to admit that I'm a bit hazy on some of the English counties, and wouldn't be able to name more than a few Scottish, Welsh or Irish counties.
An interesting and educational challenge, 👍.

I think this sounds like a lot of fun.

I just posted all the Canadian provinces and territories in the matching thread in the "Read It Track It' group. I'll copy/paste here:

Alberta
British Columbia
Manitoba
New Brunswick
Newfoundland & Labrador
Northwest Territories
Nova Scotia
Nunavut
Ontario
Prince Edward Island
Quebec
Saskatchewan
Yukon

In the few years I've been doing this, I still don't have anything read for New Brunswick! And, I have Labrador and Newfoundland separate, but if anyone wants any suggestions, the thread where I've been keeping track is over here:

>10 LibraryCin: Thanks for this list, that is a great help and will save some research. We might be relying on your expertise for books covering different provinces / territories. I’ve wanted to explore some more Canadian fiction.

Thanks also for the link.

This will certainly improve our geography of Canada. 🇨🇦
