I’m a newbie to this so apologies if I‘ve done it wrong. I posted this on name that book a few days ago but now realize I probably should have posted it here given the topic. Anyway, hopefully this is enough information to get the title and author of a book I read in the 1980s. I believe it was a Harlequin Regency or Mills & Boon or possibly a Signet Regency. I think the cover was white with green at the top with a dark haired woman wearing a hat pictured. That’s what I can remember about the cover.
It’s set in Georgian/early Regency period. The plot I recall is the heroine is on her own or ran away and is disguising herself as a young man. Desperate for a way to survive she meets a nobleman on the way to his country estate who hires her as a groom for his horse. The nobleman is intrigued and troubled by his new groom and then figures out she’s a girl and I can’t recall how but they end up together HEA of course! Oh, a vivid detail I recall is that as they travelled she would hide and bath in rivers and streams with whatever herbs or flowers she could gather - so he noticed his groom always smelled like rosemary, thyme or lavender and he finds this strange but nice. I’ve been racking my brain trying to remember the title as it’s one of the first books of this genre I ever read as a young teen and would love to find it again.
I got one lead so far suggesting it could be A Difficult Disguise by Kasey Michaels -thanks ‘juels’ -but from skimming it I don’t think this is the one I’m searching for. Hope others can help and thanks in advance to anyone who has any clue about this book!
