Brimax. Should this be author or publisher series?

I found an orphan while adding a book to a series which turned out to be part of a six-book collection of world history for kids. No author, published by Brimax. So Pub series, right? But publisher Brimax and thousands of its iterations are listed as authors for a large number of books, so I went with author series. But I think that is just compounding lots of previous unfortunate entries. Tell me if I need to change to publisher.
Problem is compounded by some works which still need to be combined Modern History - Limited Brimax and Modern History (History of the World), and by a parallel series of at least 2 of the same titles but by another K-6 publisher, Carson-Dellosa, also listed as author for 526 works which include several unidentified publisher (or author?) series. Are we leaving publisher as author because of volume and absent editor/author data? (I understand there is now a way to add authors using OTHER AUTHORS field?)
I just don't want to screw up any series, and I promise next time Ill ask first
