Interested in opinions on the book Fear and Trembling (1999) by Amelie Nothomb, by anyone who both knows Japan and has read it.

It's been too long since I've read it and it was way before I started living in Japan but I think the Japan that Nothomb envisions is quite on point, even what seems like the exaggerated bits. Other reviewers and Japan connoiseurs have been to known to criticize her viewpoint on Japan as being overly exaggerated but as every foreigner's experience in Japan is quite different I think it's rude not to acknowledge her experience.
It would certainly be interesting to reread now to see what I think of it at this point.
