When did the 'I'm not a robot' at login start? Why was it added?

See https://www.librarything.com/topic/310583 and https://www.librarything.com/topic/310617

Basically LT got a spam attack based on username/password combos stolen from another site and enough of them succeeded here (because people reuse) and the site admins had to do something to stop these very old and inactive accounts from being further compromized.

See the threads above for more details.

From this group's description:

"New features. This is a group for LibraryThing staff to announce and discuss new features and other improvements with members. Unlike every other group, we discourage starting new topics, unless you've actually developed a new feature (with or without our help)."

Do we need a "New War Measures" group? :-p

I like the Cookbook Captcha, but every time I login I get hungry.

Don't mean to complain, but I haven't been asked to do a Captcha last day or two. I'm feeling discriminated against--I quite liked the cookbook ones.

Yes, it comes back when I delete my browsing history, cache, cookies and so on.

Not specifically using that, but I use Firefox as my browser (LibraryThing on the Bookmarks Toolbar) and Startpage as my search engine (though I can't see how the latter would affect LT) and both are quite privacy-focussed.

ETA - I'm happy each and any way, by the way; >6 alaudacorax: was meant to be humorous ... it probably failed. I'm very appreciative of Tim & crew's efforts on our behalf.

>10 alaudacorax: I believe that Tim meant if you use whatever the incognito mode is for your browser then you should always get the Captcha.

But just because you are not a robot does not mean that you aren't a spammer.

And just because you're a robot, that doesn't mean you're a spammer. Maybe we need spamcaptcha.
