Limiting to volumes read in entirety.

25. William Faulkner, Novels 1930-1935
Probably my favorite American writer. This is hard because it leaves out Absalom, Absalom!, but this is a mighty volume indeed: As I Lay Dying and Light in August especially.

46. Abraham Lincoln, Speeches and Writings 1859-1865
It would be hard to be without Lincoln's words--what grace he showed in the midst of continual crisis.

88. Vladimir Nabokov, Novels 1955-1962
Few have had better three-novel runs than Lolita, Pnin, and Pale Fire. Rich language, provocative forms, challenging ideas.

American Sea Writing: A Literary Anthology - What better setting could there be?

William James, 1902-10 - America’s greatest philosopher. “Pragmatism,” “Varieties of Religious Experience,” and others.

James Thurber - For the sake of my sanity.

I hadn't thought of the special publications but I truly love American Sea Writing.
