I have to add Silent Spring by Rachel Carson to my list.
I read this NF book back in 1962 (it started the environmentalism
movement).

If I stick to my usual definition of classics as "published 100 years or more ago":
Little Women
The House of Mirth
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow
The Red Badge of Courage

If I expand that definition to "published at least 50 years ago" ...
