Thought I'd try starting this string since I didn't see one already posted. Curious to see what everyone has been reading.

I just finished a re-read of What Do You Say to a Naked Elf? by Cheryl Sterling. As always, I enjoyed the book (probably my fourth time reading this). Kind of strange and kooky, but great brain candy LOL

I went to my first book signing event in June. These things don't happen around here very often. This one had over 50 authors. So, I've been reading a lot of the books I picked up there. beneath the bedrock, Blue Midnight, Night Music, and Between Fracture Lines to name a few of them. I have also recently read The Simple Wild which I loved and the club series by Kayley Wood which I also enjoyed. I've had a good reading year and have read a lot.

>2 sdbookhound: Nice, glad you're having good stretch on reading! Lately, things have been hit or miss on the book front for me.

I know it is August, but . . .

I finished Leaving Cheyenne} by Larry McMurtry and Brazen and the Beast by Sarah MacLean. I'm not sure what will come up next!

Finishing 10-Code by Freya Barker for a book group I'm in. I am liking it. Also read The Best Thing by Mariana Zapata. I have loved Mariana's books, but this one is not one of my favorites of hers. My favorite is still The Wall of Winnipeg and Me. Read Evvie Drake Starts Over which I enjoyed.
Got an ARC or The Dust and the Roar which is a MC romance that takes place in South Dakota so I HAD to read that and see how the author portrayed my state. I liked it for the most part. It took place in the 1970s and the main character is a Vietnam vet. The book is a prequel to her Lock and Key series. I tried the first one of the series and didn't like it as well. I think reading the prequel, which she wrote last, made me not like it.

Those are the highlights of the end of July beginning of August so far.

>4 Hope_H: What did you think of Brazen and the Beast? I'll have to check it out, interesting title!

>6 Jenson_AKA_DL: I liked it, but I think Sarah McLean could write a grocery list and I'd probably like it. It did trigger a few pet peeves of mine, so I only gave it 4 stars instead of 5 stars. I'm waiting to see how she's going to redeem one of the characters - pretty sure she's setting up for the next book.

Read Where the Crawdads Sing for my local book club. I'd been avoiding that book. I don't know why other than that it has been so hyped that I just thought I should go against the flow. Now that I've read it, I can't say that it is my favorite book of all time or anything, but it was ok.
Waving at you Jenson and Hope H.

>8 sdbookhound: I think I have that book. Just sitting on the stack on the floor (OK - one of several stacks!) I'll have to wait to read it for a little while. The two-year-old who is currently living in my house will be moving out soon (my son and his family are staying with us while working on their fixer upper.) Then I will be free to dive into a book and not have to surface every minute.

I started English Creek by Ivan Doig several weeks ago, so that will be the first thing I'm going to read. I also feel like reading a Regency - I'm sure there's a duke or two roaming around on my kindle.

>8 sdbookhound: My boss read that book and couldn't stop recommending it to everyone LOL I keep thinking I'll have to check it out, but lately I've been on a re-reading kick and am on book three of the Nightrunner books by Lynn Flewelling, which I believe has at least five more books in the series after this one...maybe after that.
