Any thoughts on the suicide websites?

Apparently there's a website for everyone's issues. However, it seems that there might be someone on the site(s) that is hunting potentially suicidal students and making it happen through suggestion/drugs, etc

The internet scares me. I believe there are all sorts of nuts out there who get real pleasure out of tormenting people.

That's a shame because the websites would be so easy to look at. I'm sure there are real websites that target people for that. Even if they are legitimately trying to help, the advice could still not be good advice. People looking for serious help shouldn't get it from the internet.

I agree with >3 Olivermagnus:. You can find absolutely anything and everything by typing in a few key words. The internet has done some good things but it also become a two-headed monster. When our granddaughter was little and wanted to know something she'd say she would "ask Mr. Google".

A bad, bad thing; but people must seek them out in preference to calling the Samaritans.
Unfortunately the Internet is too huge to be policed and these (and other) sites shut down. And anyway, if they were to be policed and shut down, there'd only be an outcry that some freedom or other was being trampled on. Lose-lose situation, IMO.

Something certainly needs to be done about what is freely available on the internet and what is happening on there. How this is possible I don’t know. If they can monitor our emails surely something can be done.

While I was on the train to New Orleans last week, we were assigned our seats for meals and we found ourselves sitting with people we didn't know but we met some nice people. One man worked for the National Security Administration (NSA) and I had a very interesting conversation with him about what his job entailed and he said he mostly listened in on conversations but he was very careful not to tell me too much. He is now retired. I'm hoping that maybe someone is doing something about the bad people and bad information on the internet too.
