>1 leslie.98: You have a good start on this. I think I'm going to have to make myself get out of this decade. I have some of the books that my grandmother brought with her from Ireland in 1926 that I'll have to reread. Some of them were not even published in this century let alone in this decade...so that should be beneficial to my challenge.

I love that this challenge is making me seek out some of the really old stuff. I'm finding authors I've never heard of but now want to read more of.

14leslie.98
Ene 28, 2019, 10:45 pm

>12 Carol420: Thanks! My problem is the reverse - I find unless I push myself, I rarely read books published this decade. Except for Louise Penny's Inspector Gamache mysteries & Sharon Lee's Liaden science fiction series that is!

I have a bunch of books from my parents & some from my mother's uncle so I am well stocked on books from the "old days". Actually my great-uncle's books are mostly published before this challenge's start date (1900s & 1910s) so though they won't help me... I hope that you enjoy your grandmother's books.

>13 Sergeirocks: Learning about new (to me) authors and titles is one reason I like sites like this. When I first discovered Goodreads & LibraryThing, I kept telling my parents about some great book that I had just found & read only to have one or both of them saying "Oh yes, I read that years ago". Imagine my chagrin *grin*!

Having been absent for several months, I have started updating my progress on this challenge. During this period, I didn't read much so still lots of years still to go... but I did make good progress on the 1970s!

I have finished a few more years in the past 10 days but still no decades completed :(

Still no decades completed though the 1970s are getting close...

19leslie.98

Still plugging away! I have almost completed several decades (1950s, 1970s, 1980s and surprisingly 2010s) but none are finished yet.

Thanks for the encouragement >20 Sergeirocks:! This has been an interesting challenge - I knew that I generally read older books but it is an eye-opener to see how many were from pre-1920!

That is the fun part about a challenge - discovering books and authors that you love that otherwise you might never have found.

Woo hoo!! I have finally finished a decade - the 1940s.

So, I have completed another decade - the 2010s - with not one but two books published in 2019 (A Liaden Universe Constellation: Volume 4 and Accepting the Lance)! This is a surprise to me as I had thought that decade would have been one of the most difficult for me.

I can see, now that I have listed all the years for each decade above, that the 1960s will be the decade least likely to be completed.

28leslie.98
Sep 21, 2019, 6:12 pm

Ooops - I see that I haven't actually finished the 2010s yet as I am still not finished the book for 2014. Oh well...
