For your information, A Christmas Carol was published 175 years ago today. The date was December 19, 1843. I happen to be going to discuss this novella with a real life book club today. Our meeting date just happened to fall on the anniversary.

Adaptations are all over British TV this Christmas including Simon Callow's one-man show (still available on the BBC iplayer for those who can access it) and the Alastair Sim version of the story from the early 1950's. This one often praised as particularly authentic with Sim as the best Scrooge. I do like him in the role but also have a soft spot for Bill Murray's updated version. any other candidates for best Scrooge?

Alastair Sim and Bill Murray are good. My soft spot is for the animated Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol. I've loved it since I was a child. Having Mr. Magoo as Ebenezer Scrooge just worked for me. Having just rewatched The Muppet Christmas Carol, I also must say that Michael Caine made a good Scooge. Playing the role backed mostly by Muppets must have been a challenge.

Reading it right now, as I do at this time every year. Never tire of it.
