Katylit's impending puppy procurement inspired me to ask "what are your best stories about having a puppy in your house?"

My youngest dog, Greta Garbo, came to us (my other dog and me) as a 7 week old puppy. I took her to puppy class and was taught to sit with her in my lap, belly up, and hold her until she stopped wiggling. Scratch her tummy, speak soothingly, etc. I did that and now I have a dog who loves to cuddle with me. She'll get on my lap and throw herself back so she offers up her belly for a belly rub extraordinary!

What's your story? I bet there are some good ones out there?

Oh, I almost forgot, she also helped me decide to quit a lousy job. She grabbed my keys, which had a rubbery attachment, and hid them in my van, between the last seat and the wall of the van. I thought my keys had been stolen by some of the bratty kids we were trying to get to leave our clubhouse alone. I found them months later, after I quit, when I was cleaning out the van in order to sell it. Greta Garbo's advice was good!

I love your story about Greta Garbo's advice about quitting your job maggie, that's excellent!

My favourite story about one of our pups was our first pup Sam, he was a rough coated collie and we got him when we were just newly married, living in military housing, in a semi-isolated posting in Northern Alberta. We also got a kitten so they could keep each other company while we were at work. We were able to come home at lunch each day. The first week the kitten who was about the size of Sam's head, kept Sam in the kitchen, he wouldn't let Sam anywhere else in the house. He'd hiss and spit (we'd clip his claws so he couldn't hurt Sam) but Sam was so afraid of him, even though Sam was so much bigger than him. Then one day we came home from work and there they were, the two of them, all curled up on the dog bed, sleeping together. They were inseparable after that. And my best memories are coming home after a dreadful day at work, lying down on the floor and playing with our beautiful puppy and cute kitten and laughing with my husband until we both cried 'cause they were both so funny.

Good old Sam, he was a very dear dog.

Why did this thread stop?

I think one of my favorite memories of Puppy Sgt. Pepper is Day one. We got her when she was 10 weeks old and teeny tiny little thing. We were't completely moved into our new apartment yet and had a wall mirror leaning against our wall when she saw it and saw herself in it she looked at herself and tilted her head from side to side then steped back and walked to the side of the mirror to look behind it to see where the other puppy was and then ran back to see herself then back to looking behind the mirror back and forth back and forth until she finally gave up and peed.

Oh puppy Pepper you were so silly.

The very first night I had my German Shepherd pup, I spent the night with her. I ended up crawling into her crate with her (I'm kind of tiny, and the crate is HUGE) and sleeping with her all curled up like that.

The next night I left her alone, locked in the crate. The next morning I walked downstairs to discover the door of the crate open and my girl laying on the floor near it... and surrounded by pieces of my laundry. At some point she must have pulled a Houdini, wandered into the adjoining laundry room (where my clothes were sorted to wash) and carried various items back to sleep with. She had arranged them in a nice circle around her and was very contentedly laying there. She perfected the 'who, me?' look at a very early age, to say the least.

My new puppy Ankher - a "Doberman Retriever" ;-) of 12 weeks now - has developed a taste for books. Decided to give her her own LT account but hope she doesn't keep this up too long.

#8 Just took a quick look at your profile page. Your baby is so gorgeous I could eat him (or her)!

ETA - He/she looks so like one of my former babies when he was a pup. Is there a bit of bearded collie in there?

Hey Booksloth, We haven't a clue on what Mr. Benjamin is. When we adopted him from the shelter he appeared to be a bit of a Golden. Since I have 2 Golden Retr., I thought good enough. When we camp with them and at the beach on the 4th that is "the question"! He has the greenest eyes, and so gold he's reddish....so Ben is Irish! =)
