Hello,
I just joined this group and wanted to say I
have always wanted to go to England and see
St. Paul's Cathedral and West Minister Abbey
they have such a great history behind them
and I find them fascinating to read about.

I was just browsing through "Groups" and came across this one. I love cathedrals, and the history that is associated with them.
One of my favorite books in this genre is "Basilica. The Splendor and the Scandal: Building St. Peter's", by R. A. Scott. If you are not familiar with it, it encompasses life in Rome from 1506 when the first stone was laid to 1667 when the final colonade arms were completed....1300 years and 22 popes. The inside cover says "The popes who built St. Peter's (among them a bookworm, a burgher, a bastard, a pair of Medici princes, two poets, a soldier, and a swineherd) also commissioined the fountains, palaces, and piazzas of modern Rome." A lot of Roman history, an amazing story, and an incredible cathedral.
