This year's Booker Prize longlist was announced at roughly midnight British Summer Time, or 7 pm on the East Coast in the US:

Snap by Belinda Bauer (UK)
Milkman by Anna Burns (UK)
Sabrina by Nick Drnaso (USA)
Washington Black by Esi Edugyan (Canada)
In Our Mad And Furious City by Guy Gunaratne (UK)
Everything Under by Daisy Johnson (UK)
The Mars Room by Rachel Kushner (USA)
The Water Cure by Sophie Mackintosh (UK)
Warlight by Michael Ondaatje (Canada)
The Overstory by Richard Powers (USA)
The Long Take by Robin Robertson (UK)
Normal People by Sally Rooney (Ireland)
From A Low And Quiet Sea by Donal Ryan (Ireland)

The shortlist will be revealed on September 20, and the winner will be announced on October 16. I haven't read any of these books, so I'll get started next month; I'll probably read Warlight first.

*sigh*
Okay, I probably ( .... definitely) won't be able to ignore it as planned, but I'll take my time with that list. That's what I'm telling myself now, at least.
Not yet read any of them, and I'll start with the "easy" ones (i.e. the crime and the graphic novel), given my persistent reading funk.

Happy Booker Season everyone! :)

*double sigh*
Got samples for all but the two unpublished ones Washington Black and Normal People. Bought Sabrina, The Overstory (wanted to read that one anyway and it was under 10 EUR) and another one.
But sure I'm going to ignore this list this year.... *grrrr*

Interesting longlist. I’m reading The Overstory now. I’ll definitely try to get to Sabrina, which was already on my mental tbr. As to the rest, we’ll see.

Surprising list. I have The Overstory and Warlight home from the library so I'll start there. I've requested 6 more from the library and those I can't borrow I'll order from Book Depositry when the short list is revealed.

I read Warlight and really liked it. Esi Edugyan won the Giller Prize a few years ago- I look forward to reading her latest book.

I purchased the Kindle editions of five books earlier this morning: Snap, Milkman, The Overstory, Warlight, and From a Low and Quiet Sea. I'll attempt to read all of them next month.

Nearly all of the books (10 out of 13 IIRC) are currently available in the US; I'll confirm this later today. I'll also post individual book threads by this afternoon.

>2 Deern:, >3 Deern: Haha! Sorry, Nathalie! However, as the most reliable Booker Prize reader in this group I'm very glad that you'll be participating again this year.

>4 theaelizabet:, >5 Carmenere: Excellent!

>6 torontoc: I'm glad that you liked Warlight, Cyrel. Half Blood Blues won the Giller Prize, right? It was shortlisted for the Booker Prize several years ago, as you probably know.

>8 kidzdoc: Yes, it did. I really liked Half Blood Blues as well- Washington Black will be published in Canada in Sept.

>9 torontoc: The same is true in the US, Cyrel; Washington Black is scheduled to be published here on September 18.

The Overstory is the only one that was already on my TBR pile. I'd heard of Warlight, but not sure it's for me. I'll wait to see how you all like it first!

Snap, The Water Cure, and Washington Black sound appealing to me.

>11 japaul22: Sounds good, Jennifer. I hope to read Warlight in the first few days of August, before I leave for Edinburgh on the 15th.

I haven’t read any of them..! Quite a challenge to read them all before September 20 as I am holidaying in Italy right now and won’t be back until August 12! Hopefully my orders at BookDepository will be waiting for me then!

I was very surprised by the Man Booker long list. I've purchased From A Low And Quiet Sea and Snap. I'm not sure which I'll read first. I've put a several others on hold at my library. A number of them are not yet published in Canada. I have a hold on Warlight but I've not a been a big fan of Michael Ondaatje in the past, so we'll see how that goes.
