Two ARCs, both contemporary fiction:

* The Only Story by Julian Barnes (pub date 4/18; have never read him but have wanted to)
* The Lido by Libby Page (pub date 7/18)

On Tuesday (5/1), I wandered into a relatively new bookstore (used and new books), The Dial Bookshop, that opened in the space vacated by a wonderful used bookstore. Lovely space, lovely staff, great selection of books, all it's missing is a cat.

I bought:

The Young Bride, by Alessandro Baricco
To Each His Own, by Leonardo Sciascia
The Outcry, by Henry James
Leonardo da Vinci's Machines, by Marco Cianchi

Then I left before I could do any more damage.

Paid for a book in April which arrived in May, so I'm counting it this month. And brought home another ARC which is comparing itself to another epistolary novel, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer.

* The Garies and Their Friends by Frank J. Webb (19th century American lit from the lovely Broadview Press)
* Meet Me At the Museum by Anne Youngson (pub date 8/18, contemporary epistolary fiction)

And an ARC of an "historical military fantasy" debut, The Poppy War, by R. F. Kuang, due to be published in May.

One historical fiction (just barely, 1950s) ARC from Beatriz Williams, being published July 2018: The Summer Wives.

One historical fiction ARC that looks awesome, especially since I read Henrietta's War and Henrietta Sees It Through by Joyce Dennys, and Nella Last's War: Dear Mrs. Bird by AJ Pearce, due to be published in July.

There's a great used bookstore down the street from my hairdresser. Yesterday, I got my hair cut, and then I picked up Richard Nickel: Dangerous Years, by Richard Cahan, and The Mechanical Smile, by Caroline Evans. Both remainders/overstocks, so I got $110 worth of books for $18. I love Powell's!
