Bookhouse in Dinky Town near the University of Minnesota.
This place has A LOT of books. The books are two deep on the shelves and in piles on the floor. Plan a couple hours to do the place justice.

Uncle Hugo's/Uncle Edgar's - one block north of Lake Street on Chicago Avenue. They've been in business for 24 years. They have a completely amazing selection of new and used science fiction and mysteries. In their latest newsletter, the owner writes that they are struggling to survive right now - the cold and snowy winter, economic downturn, rise of internet bookstores - all are contributing.

Please stop by and help them out!

It would be a shame if Hugo's closed. I wish we had more money at the moment. :(

Hugo's is a great place. It is THE place to find obscure titles. I was there today and took advantage of their Anniversary Sale and of course I found some good stuff.

I'm so glad I stumbled across this thread. I'm planning a trip to the twin cities and have to scope out the best bookstores. Let me know if there's any others I should be aware of. Thanks.

#5: Magers and Quinn is a great place. New and used books. Good selection (by Twin Cities standards). See here:

Hope you enjoy your trip to the Twin Cities! I miss it quite a lot (just did my master's there, now doing my doctorate in Manhattan). I'd like to get back there late this summer if I can.

BTW, if it's warm when you go and you're looking for a cool summer treat, Izzy's Ice Cream in St. Paul is the best I've ever had:
