Funny, I was just looking at this thread yesterday wondering if I should post something to bring it back up from the abyss....

I have a ticket to see Jesmyn Ward speak next week, at the Carter Center in Atlanta on Thursday. I noticed that Laura from the 75 Books group will also see her speak next week, in Philadelphia, so I suspected that she may be on a book tour this month, and that is the case. Next week she'll be in Cambridge on Monday, Brooklyn on Tuesday (at St Francis College), Philadelphia and Washington on Wednesday, and Atlanta on Thursday. After that she'll go to Chicago, Austin, Houston, New Orleans and Pass Christian in the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Here's a link to her schedule, with more details:

There is a list, though. There are some I wish I had NOT read--A Confederacy of Dunces and Game of Thrones (though I confess I made it through only the first two of George R.R. Martin's series.).

Mostly a good list, though I wish Shogun had been in there. I remember enjoying that a lot.

I sometimes think that they should quiz you on which authors you've read rather than on specific works.

I am happy to set up the 2019 Club Read page again, but I'd like to also inquire if any of the other veterans of the group might like to take it on for 2019? (our 11th year!)

On behalf of the group I'd like to thank those who took on the responsibility to create the threads for our regular features (i.e. What Are You Reading Now?, Best Reads of __, and so on) for this year. Thank you!!

This is a good place for any fresh suggestions or improvements for the group for next year...so fire away.

SUGGESTION: I think our regular features should be—pretty please—titled in capital letters for easy spotting.

Since there are clearly no takers re#22 above (or no one reads this thread), I will set up Club Read 2019 in the very near future (it will private during the time I am setting it up) and will advise when it is ready for membership.

Many, many thanks to those members who took on the responsibility of setting up the group's regular discussion threads (i.e. Questions for the Avid Reader, Interesting Articles, Quarterly Best of, What Are You Reading Now...etc). Please let us know if you can't continue so someone else can step forward and the traditions can continue.

I’ve been mostly missing (posting anyway - I had been reading) the last few months but I can take care of the “what are you reading” threads again next year (unless someone else wants to). :)

I'm happy to continue with the Interesting Articles thread.

Lois, will you continue with the mysteries and crime novels thought spot? I've enjoyed it very much this year. If you don't want to set it up, I'd be glad to.

It might also be fun to have threads for other genres. I know that several people here enjoy science fiction. Would there be interest in a dedicated thread?

I was in some weird mood - I've read less than half the usual number of books and most were crime and mystery series ones (which does not make them bad books - I just did not feel like reading anything else - which is weird). Back on track I think - and maybe I will manage to keep up posting this time around. :)
