Help your Secret Santa!

Do you have any special items you are "wishing" for? Do you have any preferences towards used or new books, paperback or hardback?

Are you only interested in VMCs, or would you enjoy receiving other types of books?

Is there anything else your Santa might send you? Maybe they could choose a pattern from your Ravelry wishlist to sent you? Maybe they could send you something you collect or something that would be a particular treat?

You can mention what you don't want. Some people have allergies. I love my dog but I already have more than enough border terrier things!

Please post anything you think will help your Secret Santa in their quest to find a gift for you.

Also, let's keep this thread just for letters to Santa and keep chat and questions and answers on the original Secret Santa thread! Experience has taught us that makes it easier for everyone to find out what they need to know!

Dear Santa,

I've neglected the group this year, but I hope you know that I'm still nice rather than naughty - new jobs and moving house and all sorts of other things rather stymied me. But my LibraryThing catalogue is up to date (more or less - if anything, I've accidentally left books on there that I've culled).

I'm very happy with secondhand books, and have no particular requests. Unless you find a copy of The Young Ones by Diana Tutton, but then you'll be a miracle worker. But otherwise, I am delighted to be surprised.

Thanks!
Simon

Dear Santa,

I love pre-owned books as much as (more than) new ones, esp if they have someone else's name or dedication inside. My catalogue will be up to date by Wednesday and I have a wishlist on my blog here https://librofulltime.wordpress.com/my-wish-list/ which includes several Virago authors. I love books set in your home town or by a local author: that's brought me some great reads over the years.

I don't like sci fi or books where animals are harmed, or biographies of animals (OK, I loved Flush, but there we go).

If you're putting in extras, I like over 70% cocoa dark chocolate and sweets with less than 1% saturated fat. I love parma violets.

I have been Quite Good this year, but not super-good at keeping up with challenges on here etc. - I'm sure you'll forgive me!

Millions of thanks,

Liz x

Dear Santa

I think I have been pretty good this year. :)

I absolutely love old pre-owned books - so happy with second hand, new re-prints or of course lovely green viragoes what ever you choose is fine with me. My library is up to date (I think) - VMCs and Persephones tagged accordingly.

I don't like sci-fi books generally or romance - and I only read vintage crime books, modern crime isn't for me.

I am finding myself more and more in need of comfort reads just lately - so would love some of the Angela Thirkell, or Richmal Crompton books that I don't currently have. I also like the BLCC golden age crime books - though I haven't added those I have read to LT - you can access my blog via my profile which might help with what I have or haven't read.

I'm sure there are still VMCs I would like, but I can only think of a few titles; Belinda by Rhoda Broughton, Rumour of Heaven by Beatrix Lehmann, After the Death of Don Juan, Sylvia Townsend Warner, Cousin Rosamond by Rebecca West, The Doves of Venus by Olivia Manning.

I also love collections of short stories. Surprises are good too.

I am sure however, that whatever you choose Santa, will be wonderful, so I thank you in advance.

Dear Santa, I'm sorry I haven't been active this year - my relationship and keeping up with my house a bit better has kept me busy! I've been good though, and I'm excited to be chatting with my friends again.

I don't ask for much this year, except maybe a book, though I'd prefer knitting needles & any yarn at all, with a snack. I lost my needle set in my last move years ago and I'm finally feeling crafty once more!

On my list is my most favorite snack, cinnamon pecans. I can't find them locally, except yearly at a festival every October, and unfortunately, I ate all of them already. If you know a better place to get them or even want to make your own, I'd love you forever!

On my list you'll see some books, and a few random things. Not interested in chocolates or Viragos this year. There's not many left I'm interested in having, and my hubby Cody knows I love Ferrero Rocher, so he'll be supplying my chocolate fix. :)

Dear Santa

I know you have wonderful taste, all Virago Secret Santas do, so I would be very happy for you to chose whatever you'd recommend and think I would like.

I enjoy most genres of fiction, as long as it's well written but I do have a particularly fondness for those middle class, middle brow, mid century, lady authors much discussed in our Virago group. My favourite contemporary authors are also women and I would be over the moon with anything of theirs that I don't already have. Favourite authors are listed on my profile page.

My library is up-to-date to obsessive standards. I haven't properly bought a book until it's listed on LibraryThing.

I love an old battered book with a history, new shiny books and anything in between!

If you would appreciate any further help, I've whittled down my long and unwieldy private Amazon wishlist and put some lovely looking items onto a public wishlist which seems to have the title of "new list". Search for Dee L Ingram on Amazon.co.uk. (The L is important - I'm not the Dee Ingram who's hoping for a village scene jigsaw or the Dee Dee Ingram who's after fake tan!)

But please don't feel you have to refer to that. I know whatever you chose will be fab.

Thank you so much for being my Santa this year

Dee 🌹

Dear Santa,

The Virago Secret Santa has been so wonderful over the years and I am delighted to participate again this year.

I have been very happy with everything you have chosen for me over the years, from much-loved VMCs to my first Persephones to an introduction to a contemporary author who I now adore!

And the same goes for this year - a much-loved, previously-read book is OK by me, as are brand-spanking new books. VMCs, Persephones, or a book you just read that you loved - I read a wide-variety of genres and nothing is off-limits.

My catalog here is up-to-date (well, reasonably so! I have a few books to enter and tag and will aim to get that done tomorrow, Sunday, 5 November). My VMCs are tagged VMC and the Persephones are tagged just that, Persephone.

I do have a wishlist here - it's massive of course; I add books there regularly from recommendations from my fellow LTers. Do not feel the need to follow it - there are so many more books out there that I would love if I only knew about them!

If you want to throw a treat in, I do love chocolate...

Warm regards,
Lisa

Dearest Santa,

Our Virago Secret Santa exchange is one of my favourite things to look forward to during the Holiday Season. Oh - and watching Love, Actually again (and again and again and again!)

My Virago collection has grown in leaps and bounds over the past 10 years on LT so finding one that I don't have might be difficult. That said, I am interested in collecting Virago's 'Coming of Age' hardcovers seen here: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/84518.Virago_Modern_Classics_Coming_of_Age_C...

And I always love adding to my Persephone collection. Both Collections are up-to-date.

There are several recent releases that I'm also interested in that I'll add to my wish list this weekend.

Gently-used editions are always welcome. As always, the books you've chosen in the past have been loved and cherished.

Thank you, dear Santa!

Love,
Cate 💚🌲🌿

Dear Santa,

I'm so happy to be taking part in this wonderful tradition again. I love receiving surprises, but I also love to give surprises and shopping for my Santee is such fun!

I'm always happy to receive books in any shape or form - new or preloved is fine by me, as I often end up rehoming stray books...

My LT catalogue is feebly out of date, but I have started a new thread with a small wishlist on it. There is also a small Amazon wishlist here (I hope this link works...):

http://amzn.eu/exfKLIe

Apart from books, I also love stationery and art journaling stuff. If anything edible is on the cards it needs to be borne in mind that I am diabetic and also vegan, which I know makes things difficult - sorry....

I'm sure I'll be delighted with whatever you decide, dear Santa - I've always had such lovely treats from this group and I'm sure 2017 will be just the same!

Thank you!

Hello again Santa

This has been a year of real changes for me. The biggest one is that you will find me in a new to me house, some 2,000 km from my old one. However, the usual rum and cookies will be waiting for you.

Just like before, I live in rural Canada, where Viragos new or old are really difficult to find, so getting these editions is a real thrill. I'm also a huge fan of 19th century fiction from just about anywhere, travel writing and garden writing. My LT catalogue is up to date for these categories.

As before, should your elves notice any older Canongate or NYRB books, they are always welcome too.

I have updated my Virago author wishlist on the new thread here: http://www.librarything.com/topic/273773

You have been so good to me since I started in this group, so I know anything that comes from you will be just right.

Sassy

Dear Santa

I know you will have plenty of good ideas but if you would like a few pointers...

I love pre-owned books, especially original green Viragos. I like new ones too! Any Virago or Persephone that I don't have would find a welcome home in my bookcase. My LT catalogue is up to date - I have a Virago and a Persephone collection so they're easy to find. I also have a Wishlist collection with rather random titles added. I don't really care for thrillers or science fiction although I have a soft spot for golden age mysteries and 'ripping yarns'. Having said that I know there will be exceptions.

Of course there is more to life than books: chocolate, especially dark, is one of life's pleasures and so is coffee, but I don't like tea. I have a cat but not a dog. I like to knit and to sew a bit.

I hope this gives you some ideas but I'm sure you will think of things that I haven't!

Love Kerry.

Dear Santa,

I'm sure you could make excellent choices without any help, but just in case you'd like a hint or two:

My library is as up to date as it ever will be, but please be aware that the tagging is a little erratic.

I've added the VMCs and the Virago Travellers I would love to add to my library to the wishlist thread. That's about it for Viragos, because I've been collecting for a long, long time, because many of the more recent additions to the list don't call me, and because I'm trying not to be a completeist.

I’d love anything at all that I don’t have by any of the favourite authors you will see on my profile page, and I've constructed a little wishlist here.

My favourite books take me out of the here and now; and I'm happiest in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Pre-loved books and new books are all very welcome here.

I think – I hope – that gives you a good idea of my taste.

But please don’t feel you have to take any notice of my suggestions; I’d be delighted to be completely surprised. Because often the best books of all are the books you didn’t know you wanted until you saw them ….

Love,

Jane x

Dear Santa

So very sorry that it has taken me a long time to write to you this year - life has been rather busy here! Thank you so much for thinking of me. This Christmas tradition is a wonderful one and even though I have hardly contributed this year I am so very happy to be part of it once again!

Truth to tell I love surprises, I love novels set in the second world war - or first . . . I am a francophile and love all things French . . .

Oh and . . . did you know I am also a priest and enjoy books related to my vocation as much as novels.

I have a wish list here on Amazon . . .https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/registry/wishlist/ref=nav_wishlist_btn

I am simply so very grateful for a surprise and the joy of sharing with others!

Thank you so very much dear Santa
Love and God bless
Julie x
