A month or so ago, I somehow accidentally pressed a button that I probably shouldn't have and now I am unable to see any messages on my profile page. I can go in and see an 'abc' list but that is a real pain as I don't know who my most recently posted message was from.
Does anyone know what I am talking and/or how to fix it so that I can once again see my current messages on my profile page? Even a brand new message is not showing.............. :-(
Thanks in advance to anyone who is able to help me.
I am definitely NOT a computer geek, much as I would like to be one.

Belva, are you referring to your "Comment Wall," where people can leave you PMs?
Towards the bottom of my page I see a "Recent Activity" box, then a "Post to your Comment Wall" box, and then Comment Wall followed by the PMs.
Do you see all of this, but no PMs displayed?
Do you see text next to "Comment Wall" that says "All Comments"? If so try clicking on that.
If I've misunderstood your question, please let me know.

You messaged me about this Belva (the blind leading the blind, silly woman :)) But I DID reply. Did you get that? Like a few weeks ago? My problem for weeks was that LT took minutes to load. Everything else on my computer was fine just not LT. It is back to being fine now.

I am sure that I got it Barbara but as soon as I click on the "new comment" I have a blank wall.
Hey, isn't that a name of one of our Persephone? The Blank Wall?
Thank you Laura. I will try that. :-)

a little later: Laura, I tried that to no avail. Ah well, chances are that no one has anything to share.

I see messages on your profile page, Belva. Let me get to my computer (rather than my phone) and poke around the settings.

Thank you all so much for trying to help.

>6 rainpebble: I'm stumped too, Belva. I can see messages on your page too so I don't know what you need to click to get your messages back. I only see the same options as Laura does. :((

I sent you a new message today, Belva. Can you see that?

Thanks Karen.
Linda, no I cannot see your new message. The page tells me that I "have a new message" but even when I click on "message" there is nothing there. Thank you for trying to help. It is a cluster ****. :-(

>9 rainpebble: Belva, if you go to your profile page and click on the Settings link on the top right, this brings up your profile. On the left there's a link for Account Settings and that page has an option to allow or disallow comments. It might be worth having a look to see if you're allowing comments.
11lauralkeet
Belva, if Karen's suggestion above doesn't help, I recommend the Bug Collectors group. I searched the group talk threads but didn't find anything that sounded like your situation. You can register your problem by creating a new topic, and hopefully either an LTer or staff member will be able to assist.

Laura, I took your advice as well and posted a request for help on the Bug Collectors group. Thank you so much.
I will wait to see if any helpful comments are posted there. Thank you all again for attempting to help me.

Have you tried logging out and then logging back in again? Just in case something's got stuck in some weird cycle.

That should have been my first thought. Doh.......
So I did just now try that and no luck but thanks dear.

Have you tried clearing your browser cache? I've found that it solves many problems.

Belva,
I contacted LibraryThing directly when I had some technical issues. Tim himself solved my problem. I had no luck on the Bug Collectors board .

>20 rainpebble: By way of a guess. . .which browser (and version) do you use? Secondly, did you upload any script blocking s/w as an add-on to your browser, like "NoScript"? I know a little about how Firefox browser works with that add-on, and it can cause problems that remind me of your difficulties.
22rainpebble
Lime, I was using Firefox when the page went, or when I caused it to go, wonky on my page. I am using Chrome now but having the same problem. I don't know which version I am using and am not savvy enough figure out the script/no script thing. But I am sure that I didn't upload anything of that sort for the simple reason that I don't know anything about it.
Thank you for trying to help. I have just pretty much given up & hope that anyone who wishes to contact me will use my email.

Another thought occurs to me. How old is your computer? And do you have any other issues with this or any other websites not functioning quite right? I was having ridiculous problems with certain websites --some things would load fine with one browser, but not another; something else would NOT load with the first browser, but work in a half-OK way with the other, etc. No fixes suggested by a multitude of savvy users were any good. I finally upgraded to the dreaded Windows 10 and most of those issues went away.

Just a thought Belva - on my profile page low down on the right hand side there's an option to toggle between new and old site design. Does switching between the two make any difference?

OMG Belva - this week I spent two days trying to download an e-audio book from the library onto my IPod. They made it seem so easy - Load Libby app and then click click click. But I just couldn't do it. Had what I call a Yosemite Sam tantrum. Deep breath. Go sleep on it. Try again tomorrow. But nothing worked. I could get it onto my computer but I could not get it onto the IPod. Called Apple support but they wanted the serial number of my IPod and I couldn't read it. The writing was just too small. So they told me how to get it off ITunes but my ITunes screen had locked and refused to budge off the Audiobook page.
Son came home from a 3-day conference and even he couldn't do it. Raging and shouting like me. Finally - after an hour of cussing - he got it on there but said he had no idea HOW he did it. I kept saying 'How did you do it? How did you do it?' and he said - through gritted teeth - 'I-don't-know!!!!'
In my case (not yours) I was told years ago that I am one of the 'Electric Ladies'. Electric ladies have horrible trouble with anything with a plug. The body uses electrical impulses as a signaling mechanism, and in some women this bio-electric force is over active or out of sync. This is - apparently - very common with menopausal woman but is something I have lived with all my life. I overload and my computer overloads.

My computer is almost 2 years old, Linda. I have taken it in to the 'computer doc' two times (last summer & this summer) for cleaning, check up, etc. The tech was unable to help me with this issue and no, I must confess that I have not moved on to Windows 10. I may have to do that. My tech has tried to talk me into it both when I purchased my laptop and when I took it in for cleaning. But I just have not been able to force myself to go there yet. :-(
All of my other sites work fine with no issues. I do remember when this 'wonky thing' occurred that I was striking keys on my LT home page at the time. I have always thought that I must have hit a sensitive key. IDK. But I would think that if that were the case our techies here on LT would have been able to help me.
>24 kaggsy:
Karen, when I contacted LT they thought that I was using the 'old' design as that is what they saw. When my page went wonky it did switch the site design from 'new' to 'different', not precisely 'old' but different in appearance. I have switched from one to the other and back and nothing seems to make any difference.....sadly.

Two plus days trying to load a book onto you I-Pad with no success, Barbara..........you must have been fit to be tied! (I would like to know the title of this audio book as it must be something special for you to spend that kind of time on it. Arghhhhhhhh) So sorry for your frustration.
What you describe with your son is somewhat how I felt when my page changed up with the no messaging thing. I had no idea what I had done but I do know that it didn't 'just happen'. It had something to do with one of the keys I struck. Again, Arghhhhhhhh!~!
The 'Electric Ladies' conundrum is quite interesting. Thank you for that link and I am going to do further research on that.
Thank you all for being such sports and trying to help me. I love you all for it.
hugs all round,

It's a Jojo Moyes romance novel Belva and of no importance. The point was to learn how to download e-audio and I still don't know :) And it was onto my IPod not IPad. I do have an IPad but it lives in my son's room and has become his. When I talk to Apple Support I become this quavery voiced old lady. I don't understand half of what they're saying. It takes me ages to figure this stuff out. However, I have been weeding the yard for the last couple of hours and listening to the book! Yay!
