First thing upon opening a new subscription volume, I pull out the insert and read it. I usually won't be reading the book right when it arrives, but it's exciting to have it and the insert provides a nice overview. I store these inside the front cover.

I don't own any books with the dust jacket, and wonder if the text from the insert is reproduced on the flap(s)? Or are these descriptions unavailable to anyone purchasing the book in a store rather than as a subscriber?

The first two pages of the flyer copy is usually identical--or very similar--to the jacket flap copy. (Sometimes we modify the copy to avoid too much repetition between the flyers of books that form a set.)

The third page, which often features an anecdote involving the author and another LOA author, is written especially for the flyer.

That's good to know, David! I do especially like the anecdotes and am pleased to get that.

Thanks, for that, David. I had always guessed that was the case, but it's nice to know for sure.

As my LOA collection grows, the anecdotes and suggestions of related LOA books on page here of each insert transcends from a marketing ploy to a cross reference. I love the inserts. They did not exist when I first subscribed in the late 1980s.
