Printing of barcode labels with labelprinter

It would be nice if it was possible to print our own barcodes (and maybe Dewey or spine-labels too) from the admin part of Librarything or tinycat. I have two Dymo labelprinters that could very well do that job. Otherwise it's copying the code to the dymo-app, making sure it's having the correct barcode type, print, and go back libraything/tinycat and go to the next item.

Sorry we don't offer the ability to print your own labels within LT or TC!

You should be able to print labels for your own books relatively easily by exporting your books on LibraryThing's end (http://www.librarything.com/more/import). You can get a file of your books to work with, rather than running through each one manually. I hope this helps!

It might work, but I think it would be a whole lot better if it was possible to do this from the program it self.

I understand. Unfortunately, I don't see this feature being added anytime soon, as our small team of developers has limited time available between TinyCat, LibraryThing, and LibraryThing for Libraries (our sister company) projects. There are other features, like copies management and circulation reports, that would take precedence as development time does become available for TinyCat.

All this being said, we've got the request to print labels within TC/LT on our list of features, and we'll be sure to announce if anything is developed on this front! Thanks for your patience with this.

>1 EdwinKort: I should also mention that we sell our own auto-incrementing, pre-printed, barcode labels in our Store: http://www.librarything.com/more/store/barcodes, if that helps!

I know you do, and I might get some of them later on. First going to get all books in the system.

Has there been any change to adding the feature to print the barcodes from within Library Thing? I work overseas and cannot get preprinted barcodes...postal system is not developed here.

Thanks!

>7 bkklibrarian1: Sorry, I'm just seeing your post here! Nothing's changed as of yet, I'm sorry for the inconvenience. You can generate your own labels by exporting your book data from LibraryThing (see https://www.librarything.com/more/import) and running a Mail Merge of sorts.

There's a Talk thread where other members discuss what they've done here: https://www.librarything.com/topic/97585 ( https://www.librarything.com/topic/97585 ). I hope this helps.

>9 cabinfeverthrifting: Afraid not, but I'll circle back on this soon to see if it's something we might want to look further into. Will post to this thread with any updates.

I am new to LibraryThing but I will jump in on the "printing" option. Most of my books do not have any barcode as they are older. It would be nice to be able to make "belongs to" labels with some basic information such as "name" printed and "ISBN" as a barcode. Brother makes some possibly compatible printers "QL-800" and scanners such as "Netum" or the supported "cat" scanner. (I did R&D in the mid 80's with wand scanners).

Heard, thanks for the feedback!

In the meantime, you can generate your own labels by exporting your book data from LibraryThing (see https://www.librarything.com/more/import ) and running a Mail Merge of sorts.

There's a Talk thread where other members discuss what they've done here (for spine labels, which would follow the same process): https://www.librarything.com/topic/97585. I hope this helps.

My library has DYMO LabelWriter 450 Twin Turbo label printer which has served us well for printing both Call Number stickers and Spine Labels for many years. Now switching to LT and TinyCat, we would like to continue using the printer. Any help or suggestions? Thank you.

Are you looking for some sort of API that you can use on LibraryThing and TinyCat, for your label printer? Unfortunately, we don't have such an API, but if the label printer works as a standalone you can still use it. We do have a "Call number" field (and you can set your own call number system from your Other Settings in LibraryThing: https://www.librarything.com/settings/other, and from your Circulation Settings in TinyCat: https://www.librarycat.org/admin/settings/circsettings), to keep track of your call numbers, if that helps.
