Hi,

Is anyone doing any challenges started on Litsy? I am happy to add some I have come across. Let me know what bookish challenges you are starting in 2017.

I am going to perform the ReadHarder Challenge, The Litsy A-Z Challenge, The Litsy Bingo, the Pop Sugar Read Challenge and the Diverse Reads Blogging Challenge.

It may seem like a lot, but they all cross paths and I am not above triple tasking a book!

Happy to hear any other recommendations people have for a bookish challenge!

I'm doing my own Alpha challenge this year. I figured out how many books for each letter (author last name) I have that are TBR, figured out a week-per-letter number, and set the whole thing throughout the year, week by week. I'm hoping that this will keep me moving through the books I already own and get some older ones read, plus, I still really want to read the majority of my books, so it's a win-win. I'm done with the A's so far, and am in the middle of the B's, which is far and away my most populated letter. Who knew?

Plus, I do the category challenge and ROOT challenge here on LT, so it's enough for me to keep track of. I'll triple-up a book, too, the goal is to get more of my own stuff read (and ideally out of the house, but that's less likely).

That sounds so smart! Are you keeping track on a spreadsheet?

I am trying to do a lot of challenges purely for the sake of cutting down my at home unread pile, but your method sounds better! Sadly, I am a picky a the moment kind of reader, so it can be hard to do.

Where did you hear about these challenges?

What is #DustyBookshelf ? I don’t know that one.

What are the parameters/requirements for #MountTBRChallenge? I'm sure there's probably a post somewhere in the 300+ posts with that hashtag that explains it, but searching isn't exactly an amazing thing on Litsy, at least not for particular posts.

MountTBR actually started as a group on Goodreads. You can join the group there for all the details, but I’ll try to sum it up here. The idea is to climb your personal mountian of TBR books that you already own prior to Jan 1st and want to read. You can then pick a challenge goal, the Goodreads group has different mountains for various height goals. So I choose to try and “climb” Mt Kilimanjaro (read 60 books) that I already owned. There are different mountains (levels) to choose from. After I joined there, I made a post on Litsy with my goal, and for me, my challenge page in my journal, and as I read some of them I try to remember to tag them under #MountTBR

>10 RivetedReaderMelissa: The rate I am going this year with my #MountTBR Challenge I’ll be lucky to climb the local hill let alone Mount Kilimanjaro! Only got to 5 so far - all those library books and buddy reads keep calling out to me! 😂 Must do better!

>10 RivetedReaderMelissa:

On LT, we have the ROOT (Read Our Own Tomes) challenge group (http://www.librarything.com/groups/2018rootreadourownto). It's another very friendly group and you can set your own goals.

Ever think, whatever the platform, book people 'suffer' from the same issues ;-)

>10 RivetedReaderMelissa: / >12 klarusu: On LT there is also the TBR Challenge (https://www.librarything.com/groups/tbrchallenge) which is selecting 24 specific titles from your shelves (technically having been there at least a year but folks can do what they like) with the official goal of reading 12, but many of us shoot for all 24, though it's not often we get all of them done. It's a smaller group, and super cozy. :)

>12 klarusu: Yes, that’s whats made the social part of Litsy so great, all book people “get” each other on a basic level. It’s a struggle to keep up with what you buy, it’s a struggle to read your own when Library loans come with due dates and jump to the head of the pile, etc. Lots of the book reading topics that no one in my immediate IRL circle understood, the Litsy crowd immediately related to because they had similar bookish problems. I’m sure LT is very similar.

I can’t figure out how to copy a meme on Litsy. You know, those entries such as #Manic Monday where everyone posts the same image but answers questions differently. Can anyone help me out? Do Book Challenges on Litsy work the same way?

>16 SqueakyChu: I take a screen shot of the original post, and then when I add an image to my post I upload that screenshot and edit it using the transform option (far left on the bottom of the editing options), choose 1:1 and move the image until it has the meme in centre. Hope this hleps and makes sense.

>16 SqueakyChu: Not sure what you mean you say do book challenges work the same way, do you mean posting the picture of the meme for the book challenge?

>17 Andrew-theQM: That was such a simple solution! Why couldn't I think of that?! I tried every other thing today. Yes, I understand exactly what to do now. Thank you very much.

Yes, that's what I mean. Now I know what to do. Thanks!

When you sign up for Litsy book challenges, must you do that before you begin reading a book (i.e. the book is "To Be Read"), or are you allowed to add a "Currently Reading" book to a challenge?

>19 SqueakyChu: Pleased to be able to help. 😊
Most people that run the challenges are very easy going, just happy to have people join the fun. For example i’ve Just noticed a buddy read for Beartown in April which I have already started and said I will now hold off continuing until the Read, others I have been known to join part way through as I notice them or when I finally get hold of a copy of the book. For other challenges like #MountTBR Challenge (run by DivaDiane I think) started at the start of the year but think people can join at anytime. I think the whole nature of Litsy is very easy going and if you want to join in with any you will be welcomed with open arms.

>21 SqueakyChu: I believe some do have a sign-up sheet, especially those challenges with giveaways. One example is #booked2018 which is a quarterly seasonal reading challenge.
Here is the sign-up form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdO3MgKIU4BbuCLBd29OGeURw6B7Yu1Cd_TqmaC...

(Noting, I'm not currently participating but just passing the info along. 😁)

>23 This-n-That: That's so nice about the giveaway, although I would not be interested as I have too many books at my house as it is. However that is a nice incentive for others to join.

I guess I'd need to join a challenge to see exactly how they work?

Nice list! Maybe in the future it might be fun to run concurrent LT-Litsy book challenges. :D

>22 Andrew-theQM: If you see a challenge you are interested in just leave a comment under the main post asking how you can join in or take part, someone will answer you! I haven’t joined any where there are giveaways.
