I know this sounds dumb, but I don't like reading books that are not symmetric. So I wouldn't buy an electronic reader that isn't symmetric.

I hadn't even thought of that, but now that I have . . . I think my initial enthusiasm is being dampened. And that could be a good thing for a (gadget) impulse buyer.

Just for Clarification what do you mean not symmetric? The shape or layout?

Books where the left hand pages are smaller than the right hand pages? :D

Sorry, I didn't mean to be mysterious. I have owned books with boards of different sizes, or of different shapes, or boards with bits cut out: I like a book to be symmetric when divided in either the horizontal or vertical plane (making due allowance for the spine). I understand the ergonometric reasons for the physical design of the Kindle, but to a book lover it may not be satisfactory.

What I want is an anti-grav device I can attach to large books, so I can read them comfortably while lying down, without hand strain.

#6: I have a large pillow I use for that, to support the book when I choose to lie down to read. Try it!

#6, #7 - the anti-grav device I want includes making it much easier to hold a paperback open without undue strain on arthritic thumbs. So, let's see, the book is easily held, easily held open, and does not drop. Good idea! Thanks.

I think Amazon needs to get on this. Instead of this Kindle thing, or funding LibraryThing competitors, they need to make the really long bet—anti-gravity devices.

#7 - Where did you get your anti-gravity pillows?

#6 why don' t you attach it to a bag filled with hydrogen? Gets you the same result without having to charge any batteries.. You should be non-smoker though to avoid the "Hindenburg-Effect"... and stay away from electrostatic discharge ;)

Re: Anti-gravity device -- How about a Reading Dog Companion like seeing-eye dogs but for book holding and page-turning? I always wanted one of those so I can sew and read at the same time.

The pages would get awfully wet and mangled, but at least the dog would be happy.

I'd hold the book and turn the pages, but I'd love a dog who, instead of fetching the morning paper, would go out and buy books for me. Better, I think you could teach a dog to recognize the Amazon packaging, right? Well, how about a dog who roamed the streets looking for Amazon packages and bringing them home to you?

Now that's my kind of dog.

I am a bad aural learner and find it very difficult to concentrate on audio books. My brother and my kids love them but not I. I hate to be read to.

My wife is like that. I adore them.
