National Book Award Winners announced. Have you read any of them?

Young People’s Literature

March: Book Three by John Lewis, Andrew Aydin, and Nate Powell

Poetry

The Performance of Becoming Human by Daniel Borzutzky

Nonfiction

Stamped from the Beginning: The Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America by Ibram X. Kendi

Fiction

The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead

Heck, I'm so out of date, I haven't even heard of any of these writers. Definitely intrigues by the winning authors in nonfiction and fiction.

Did you have a candidate(s) who you had hopes for but who didn't win the prize?

Oh! That John Lewis!

Young People’s Literature

March: Book Three by John Lewis, Andrew Aydin, and Nate Powell

“And I remember in 1956, when I was 16 years old, some of my brothers and sisters and cousins going down to the public library, trying to get library cards,” Lewis said, clutching his award. “And we were told that the library was for whites only and not for coloreds.”

“To come here, receive this award, this honor — it’s too much,” he said, his voice trembling.

Appreciate the new NBA director's goal to "better reflect a diverse readership," in the organizations award decisions. Especially these selections. Especially in our current political climate.

Heard part of this radio interview with Colson Whitehead about his new novel, so I know that one.

Jeez, the season just started, I don't think we know who the winner is yet. They'll be playing bball until July.

>4 geneg: Sadly, I had the same thought.

Though she said 2016, so last season's champ is Cleveland, isn't it?
