Hi there,
I've just joined this group to get some input concerning international and especially English children's books. My research thus far was primarily based on picture books, since I've wrote my master thesis about this genre. Nevertheless there are loads of books for other age groups (from my childhood) on my shelf.
If anybody was interested in some intercultural exchange or looking for German stuff (picture books, classics, fairy tales), I would gladly offer help and contribute to this group.
Just let me know.

By English books do you mean British or written in English?

I like German fairytales. They are centered around teaching lessons to children about dangers lurking around. Better to scare them a bit rather then have them learn the hard way by experiencing these stories. I love the uses of forests and children being alone, unsupervised. Common situations for the time.

Not sure if I'm totally understanding your request, so sorry if this is way off the mark, but I've always thought Struwwelpeter was a really groovy book.

Hello People

My favorite German children's book is Momo by Michael Ende. I like it even better than Der Unendliche Geschichte ( the neverending story). Also the books by Cornelia Funke are very good.
Does anyone know more good German writers?
