Yes, this has been on my mind lately. I lean toward the scholars cited toward the end who are somewhat skeptical. I don't doubt that there was a major wave of migration ~70,000 BP, but knowing the tendency for humans to move and travel, the difficulty in finding tiny signals, material or genetic, some of the finds in Asia that predate the major migration, etc - I suspect this is not the final word. I also really want to know whether this truly reflects the first occupation of Australia, as my (unreliable) interpretation of the data has suggested the possibility that Aboriginal people descended from a slightly earlier migration. But maybe not.
