I found that "The Fighter" by Simon, is a song about a betrayal and exploitation, not about Ali, who did not accept the statement;" All lies and jest, Still a man hears what he wants to hear, and disregards the rest.....Lalalahla la la la la!"
Ali did NOT "Disregard the rest"...no, he fought "the Rest" for as long as he could.
I Think Simon was betrayed by his song's title, and didn't choose quite the right song for his announcement.

I'm afraid I can never hear that song nowadays without thinking of the folk-singer parody version entitled "The Folker". Not sure who first came up with it, and I've heard different versions, but Fred Wedlock is the one I mainly associate with it.

No disrespect to Muhammad Ali - a remarkable man.
