I'm thinking it's time to start looking ahead again to upcoming authors. So let's get those nominations rolling!
Just a brief reminder on the nomination rules:
Any author chosen in the last 2 years (see the group wiki for the list) is not eligible again.
Previously nominated authors who didn't win can continue to be nominated as often as you like.
You have up to 4 nominations of your own as well as 4 chances to second other's nominations. Any author who is seconded gets into the final vote.
Deadline: Let's get all our nominations in by May 1 so we can start voting and have plenty of time to acquire our reading selections.

The past few months have been very male-centric so I'll get the ball rolling with some female names for a change of pace ...
Kate Morton - been hearing a lot of good things about her books lately.
Lionel Shriver - plenty of food for thought with her works, I think.
Vera Caspary
Sarah Vowell

I would read Lionel Shriver with a group (or with a therapist nearby). I don't think I could eat We Need to Talk About Kevin without support.

Here are a few authors that I thoroughly enjoy and have introduced others to who agree:
Ivan Doig - A great American writer
Herman Wouk - A delight to read
Naomi Regan - A wonderful writing style
Alice Hoffman - Has always been a favorite of mine

Touchstones:
Ivan Doig
Herman Wouk
Naomi Regan - Who do you mean?
Alice Hoffman
NOT seconds, as looking at these, I'm not interested.

I'll toss out some on my planned list:
The Brontë sisters (touchstones: Charlotte Brontë, Emily Brontë, Anne Brontë)
Alexandre Dumas
Toni Morrison
Franz Kafka

>6 .Monkey.: Are you thinking all 3 sisters in one discussion thread?

>3 nohrt4me2: While definitely dark, We Need to Talk about Kevin was a fantastic read with lots to talk about after reading.

>8 sweetiegherkin: Yes. Emily only wrote one novel, and Anne two. So unless it were merely Charlotte, who wrote several adult novels among other works, it wouldn't make sense to consider them separately.

>10 .Monkey.: Yep, makes sense, just wanted to clarify. :)

Okay, so I'll second ...
the Bronte sisters
Toni Morrison
Elena Ferrante
and
Franz Kafka
As usual, so many great suggestions, it's hard to pare it down!

Question ... has this group ever chosen Ernest Hemingway? I tried to search but the results seemed only to be nominations or other references.
Thanks.
Thanks.

>15 BookConcierge: Looks like no. Feel free to nominate him next round! I know I'm due for some Hemingway reading again. :)

>15 BookConcierge: This wiki that is linked on the group's homepage is where you can find all the previously discussed authors https://www.librarything.com/wiki/index.php/Monthly_Author_Reads.

^Yes, that. I put a good deal of effort into that, please make use of it, that's why we have it! lol

Thanks for the link ... but where would I find it if I were just looking at the group's main page?
Thank you.

Er, on the group page, where it explicitly says "Please check on the group wiki for previously read authors" ...? Heh.
