Historian and WWII veteran Chief Joseph Medicine Crow died April 3 at the age of 102. He was the last living person to have heard direct oral accounts of the events of the Little Big Horn. He wrote Counting Coup: Becoming a Crow Chief on the Reservation and Beyond, From the Heart of Crow Country and Brave Wolf and the Thunderbird.

Country singer Merle Haggard died April 6 at the age of 79. His memoir was called Merle haggard's My House of Memories.

Author E. M. Nathanson died April 4 at the age of 88. Best known for The Dirty Dozen, he also wrote Knight's Cross and A Dirty Distant War.

Economist Joel Kurtzman died April 6 at the age of 68. His books include MBA in a Box and Startups that Work.

Pianist and broadcaster Jeremy Siepmann died April 6 at the age of 74. His books include The Piano, The Life and Works of Ludwig van Beethoven and The Life and Works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Notorious drug smuggler Howard Marks died April 10 at the age of 70. He wrote Mr. Nice and The Howard Marks' Book of Dope Stories.

New Yorker cartoonist William Hamilton was killed in a car accident on April 8 at the age of 76. He was still drawing for the New Yorker at the time of his death as he had done for the previous 50 years. His books include Voodoo Economics, Terribly Nice People and Anti-Social Register. :'(

Music producer David Gest died April 12 at the age of 62. He wrote Simply the Gest.

Designer Vladimir Kagan died April 7 at the age of 88. He wrote Complete Kagan.

Playwright Arnold Wesker died April 12 at the age of 83. His many works include I'm Talking about Jerusalem and The Wesker Trilogy.

Actress Anne Jackson died April 12 at the age of 90. She wrote Early Stages.
