Just noticed that I have eleven (11) books in my LT library with titles that begin The Age of ____________.

Can anyone beat that total?

"Age of…," "The Age of…," and "An Age of…" all count, as long as the word "age" refers to an epoch or period in history.

Do you particularly recommend any of your "Age of" books?

It depends how narrowly defined. I have only 6 books that start exactly with "The Age of ...", but fifteen if we count the full subtitle, as in "Medieval Architecture, Medieval Learning: Builders and Masters in the Age of Romanesque and Gothic", or alternatively "Egyptian Art in the Age of the Pyramids".

"The age of Arthur a history of the British Isles from 350 to 650", by John Morris, is my favourite of the four books I currently list as "The Age of.... " books. I think we should be strict about omitting subtitles...:-)

>4 Rood:

The Age of Innocence uses "age" to mean a tally of years in an individual's life, not an epoch in history. That's true of both the novel by Edith Wharton and the book of nude child photos by David Hamilton.

I also have The Age of Arthur, a good read.

If subtitles are allowable, the other book I have is the magisterial The Mediterranean and The Mediterranean World in The Age of Phillip II by Fernand Braudel.
