Hi folks. I am a lurker and sometime contributer here. Although I tend toward the liberal and progressive end of things, I also read and post on the Political Conservative thread.

Someone there was bemoaning the fact that there is little dialog between this thread and the PC thread. There are more than few liberals who post there, but few conservatives post here.

So, why not a thread where we can meet? I get pretty tired of hearing people who always agree with me (which is why I post more on the PC thread than here) and others may feel the same. So I start Pro and Con a thread where the left and right, and all those people in the middle can go it, LT style, which in my book means highly intelligent, and often entertaining conversation.

So drop, post your thoughts and lets see what happens.

Uggh. I'll be the first to grit my teeth and say, Welcome!

As you might guess, Arctic, I am worried more about myself in this regard than anyone else: there are some issues I have very strong opinions about. While I think that I have good, rational reasons for these opinions, I very much doubt my ability to express them clearly (or briefly *smirk*). And one mis-step in this type of venue is bound to set someone else off, at which point I will feel duty-bound to clarify my position. And it goes downhill from there.

What I'm asking for is this: please, all of us, cut each other some slack. If we're going to do this (have a Pro/Con) thread, let's take special care to keep things on a civilized plane.

Well, I applaud the initiative. I did think about doing the same myself at one time, but never pursued it.

I think for me personally, a lot of the stuff in the various political groups is so specifically American that it`s barely comprehensible to me.

The other thing that would put me off - no offence to anyone - as Doug1943 himself conceded recently, the P & C group is quite introverted, there`s a lot of `talking about talking`.

Having said all that, good luck to you, I`m sure others will get a lot out of it.
