I just came across a reference to Educating Marmalade online, which I had completely forgotten about! It was one of my favourite TV shows when I was a kid.
Anyway, I found out that the TV show was based on a series of books written by Andrew Davies, yes, the same guy who directed House of Cards, Pride and Prejudice and Bridget Jones's Diary! He wrote 5 books, of which there is one copy each of Marmalade Atkins' Dreadful Deeds and Educating Marmalade on LibraryThing.
Some other things I discovered:
Charlotte Coleman, who played Marmalade, died in 2001, of an asthma attack. She also played Jess in Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit.
The Marmalade Atkins TV series have never been released on video or DVD.
ITV, which made Educating Mamalade hasn't made any childrens TV programmes since 2005, and is lobbying to have the number of hours of children's TV it must show each week reduced from 8 to 2.

Charlotte Coleman also brilliantly played 'Scarlett' in Four Weddings and a Funeral , her premature death was a real tragedy.
