I didn't read Dahl as a youngster, but discovered him only recently. Last year Kellogg's (Australia) included some promotional copies of his books in packets of Cheerios and that's what got me started!

So far my favourites are:

Fantastic Mr Fox
James and the Giant Peach

and, in the non-fiction category:

Boy: Tales of Childhood

I enjoyed Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator and the story collection The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Six More. James and the Giant Peach was very good also. I probably read more of his books as a kid but I can't remember right now :)

Danny, the Champion of the World has always been one of my favorite Dahls.

(The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar & Six More) is hands-down it for me. I agonized at "The Swan", was intrigued by "Fingersmith", amused by "The Mildenhall Treasure"; and to me it means a lot that I can still remember the names AND the stories so well after all these years.

My favourites would probably be The Witches, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and George's Marvellous Medicine (the last being the only Dahl book I owned growing up, which I read many times). I also like The Twits, which my fifth grade teacher read to the class and then I read it myself after.
