What are you reading in January 2016?

Somehow I've beaten apokoliptian to starting a new monthly thread and I'm sadly not as clever with the wordplay to introduce this one so I'll just get right to it ... What is everyone reading in this first month of the new year??

Sorry, I was happy in the haze of New Year's Eve parties.

By the way, Happy New Year for all librarians.

Starting the year with Wonder Woman: Earth 1 vol.1. This version has two cornertones: George Perez's Post Crisis update, which set straight her mythology and enviroment, and Adam Hughes' s WW, prodigal with grace and sensuality. Upon this base, Grant Morrison adds his own spice to build what may be labelled as an adult version, in which all taboos involving the character are brought to center stage (her sexuality, homossexuality, the bondage thing and even the 40's Suffering Sapho interjection) in a natural way for open discussion.

For a change, we meet a spoiled princess by the Amazons conventions and the Amazons themselves are more beligerant and less concerned with the world outside their paradise island.

The story is weaved as a courtroom movie and told in flashbacks, adding style to the turn of events and origin of the iconic costume.

This book is only the kick-off for the next books. Let's see what waits for us.

That Wonder Woman sounds interesting. Lots of potential for developing that character.

I liked the first volume of Fade Out by Ed Brubaker, a 30s Hollywood noir with more to come, and Concrete Park by Tony Puryear, a harsh, gritty and sexy sci-fi story with more to come.

Now I'm enjoying the last in a Black Widow trilogy, Black Widow: Last Days, by Nathan Edmondson. I'm really happy with the interesting revival of this character.

I am on the 3rd episode of Marvel's Jessica Jones on Netflix. Up to now, it is better than the comic book.

I really enjoyed Jessica Jones, looking forward to the second season of Daredevil.

This month I read Joss Whedon's run on the X-Men Astonishing X-Men, good stuff.

So far, Bitch Planet is really good.
