Tell us what books you've been reading, and whether they're any good. They don't have to be liberal. They don't have to be ones you'd recommend. They don't even have to be about politics. Probably best to avoid completely off topic books though (e.g. Harry Potter, HTML Programming, histories of Byzantium or whatnot) unless you can somehow segue from your book review into a discussion of contemporary political issues.

I just finished Everything That Rises: A Book of Convergences by Lawrence Weschler. I loved the first part of the book where the author spoke with a photographer in New York City who took pictures of Ground Zero after 9/11. Weschler juxtaposed the photos with classical works of art in a way that was both thought-provoking and beautiful.

I didn't like the rest of the book as much, but there was a section comparing Newt Gingrich with Slobodan Milosevic entitled "Pillsbury Doughboy Messiahs" which I found hilarious and quite insightful.

Oooh, interesting book!

One of the things I like about LibraryThing is it's good for coming across this sort of thing. An art book, published in another country, is not something I would ever look for in a bookshop or library.

Kil'n People a fascinating future society, where you can imprint a clay golem to do your mundane tasks for the day. Somehow this doesn't change the essential problems of life, some earn more than others, some are mean and cruel, corportations rule the world and laywers earn lots. Is that a sufficiently political segue for you?

Yes, that's fine!

Kil'n People is one of those books I've seen around and wondered whether I should read. So, now I know.

I have been enjoying Around the Bloc this week, its a about a 20-something journalist who travels to communist countries. The Russian section was the best because she had lots of Russian friends and could speak the language but the Beijing segment has been especially enlightening because one of my friends just got back from spending a year there and I kept asking him questions that he just didn't know the answer to and I found some clarity from the book.

I also read The Poisenwood Bible last week and I really enjoyed it.

#2 That is too funny about Newt and Slobo! There are a lot of similarities!

I recently finished a book that had been recommended to me literally years ago by a very good friend. Finally found a copy and read it. A little depressing at times but fascinating in its own way. We by Yevgeny Zamnyatin. Orwell based his book 1984 on this. Has many parallels, but a slightly more uplifting ending.

Cheers.

'The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy' by "Walt" and "Mearsheimer". It is a very important book and a must read for Liberals. Also 'Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid' by "Jimmy Carter".

These are very timely books since our Christian children are in the middle east killing Muslims and being killed by them and the United States is being bankrupted. Also Isarel has sent a contingent to DC to lobby for us to bomb Iran.

Archeologists report the loss of important Bibical artifacts in Iraq. They have found artifacts that prove the book of Jerimiah and say that it is impossible to know what priceless peices have been destroyed in the very cradle of civilization.

Dixiereader, did you enjoy The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy? I just picked it up for a class.

I find it all very, very depressing. Which school is daring to have students read that book! I'm amazed. What is the school's agenda, to cast Walt and Mearsheimer as Hitlers! Is there really such a school. What are your thoughts about it.

Do you realize how much Jewish propaganda has drenched America since before the time your parents were children. Are you aware of the holocausts committed by Jews in places like Russia where it has been reported that up to 40 million people were slaughtered.

As a child I was diligently taught that Jews are God's chosen people and that Jesus was a Jew so that I put Jews on a pedestal. None of us undersood that Askanazi Jews were not the same people as the Jews of ancient Israel.

All my life I have treated Jews with great respect and honor and believed all the propaganda about how they were innocent victims and people were evil to pick on them. They never seem to mind being lumped together under those circumstances.

Then I came online and began to read the "liberal" internet every day. I read it for years. I read Bill Berkowitz at Ben and Jerry's site. I read Bob Fertik at democrats.com and on and on and on. Daily I saw Chistians attacked viciously and I went along because I thought they were only attacking the Christian right.

Bill Berkowitz's column was called "Christian Watch". One day he wrote that "Christians are the enemies of America". I snapped. I had reached a critical point. I emailed him and asked him how he would feel if someone named Billy Bob had a column at a major internet site called "Jew Watch" and if Billy Bob called Jews the enemies of America.

He changed the name of his column to Conservative Watch but if you ever read it you know it for what it is.

It makes me sick to see blogs such as patriotboy's linked on liberal websites. Can you imagine these damable liberals linking to a website that was clearly full of hate for Jews. When asked the liberals have told me that they support "free speech" so for that reason they link to partriotboy. What a hoot. Free speech in America is conditioned upon Jewish approval as well as other minorites. We have diversity and political correctness in place of free speech and one nation.

The stunning thing is - it was the Jews - the Jews and their own words - that primed me for these books. I am amazed that democrats around the nation can read the liberal internet and actually go along with it. Against the interests of the United States and 98% of Americans. Liberals and neocons are a new Jewish ruling elite that have replaced the old ruling class. Rank and file voters mistakenly think they are liberals and neocons when in reality they are not. We have nothing vested in fighting over Hillary and Rudy.

98% of us have zero vested in a Jewish state. If we have come down to the level of supporting ethnic states then we should make the US into an Aryan Christian nation and save ourselves.

I don't see why David Duke is marginilized but Allan Dershwitz is treated as respectable. Whats the difference between their seeking the interests of their own particular ethinic group at the expense of everyone else.

The fulfillment of time and the convergence of the internet, satellite tv and the middle east holocaust has allowed these books to be published and their authors to be accepted rather than turned into David Dukes.

A poll recently showed that Isarel ranks at the bottom of nations in regard to how the citizens of the world feel about other countries. Other nations are able to debate Israel including the citizens of Israel itself. ONly in America are we accused of being anti-semites for discussing the very Israelization of America.

The neocons are destroying the dollar. Bush has asked for and gotten another 555 billion dollars from the liberals and republicans in congress.

When the dollar has no value it will be replaced by the Amero which will be the currency of the US, MExico, CAnada and probably South America as well. The destruction of America is at the heart of current polices at the same time we are destroying ourselves to build a Jewish state.

If we are critical of Jews they raise questions about the fact that they are a minority and what will happen to them if others turn on them, remembering their history in every country where they ever lived.

Clearly. Emphatically. Absolutely and most certainly I do NOT want anything violent to happen to ANYONE. Including defenseless and innocent Arabs and Muslims. But it is not right for Jews to place the responsibility for THEIR OWN ACTIONS upon others and expect us to go along with our own destruction.

I strongly believe that there are peaceful and safe solutions to these problems if the American system is allowed to work and the American people can discuss and debate the facts and decide upon those solutions.

One simple and effective thing would be to simply take all money out of politics so that rich Jews would not be able to control campaigns. Candidates would be able to openly oppose Zionism without fear of defeat in elections.

Jews make up half of the United States' billionaries. They are the richest segment of the population and there seems to always be a small group of Jews that are radical and that persue only Jewish interests. It is not true that all jews are doing these things and I'm not saying that.

Please let the rest of us know what you think of the book.

I go to a small college in New England, this is for an American government class. The politics classes I've had so far have tried to tackle an issue from all sides, and in my experience I think they do a pretty good job. My book hasn't gotten here from Amazon, but when I read it, I'll let you know what I think.

Here are some eye-openers for you:

'SHADOWBOSSES' (2012) Which will reveal how the Government Unions are more corrupt than the politicians.

'THE TYRANNY OF CLICHES' (2012) About how to manipulate the half-awake and poorly informed. "If you cannot blind them with brilliance, poke them with hot-button cliches." That's an Election!

'STOP THE ISLAMIZATION OF AMERICA' (2012) Unbeknownst to most Americans, the Invisible Empire of Islam even now is declaring that the laws of the country in which they reside do not apply to Muslims because Islamic Law is superior to any man-made law, despite the fact that there are no laws specific enough in the Qur'an to match the secular laws which allow a modern society to function. These subversives must be kept out of this country before we arrive at the condition in which Britain and the other European countries now find themselves.

Very comforting. Even more comforting if their webpages weren't still active. But I'll try not to worry. Thanks for your concern.

I've reviewed the infuriating The Obama Hate Machine, a detailed account of the Rich Red-Meat Right's vicious and insanely untruthful attacks on the president, in my thread...post #112.
