It all started, of course, with a book...

As many of you well know, the Hugotontheonbiquiffinarians vaulted back into action in 2009, after a lively discussion in The Green Dragon (over a few PGGB's) between myself and another LTer, and you'll need to correct me here, it was either drneutron or hfglen, I THINK, about an entry I found in an online Project Gutenberg book entitled the 1811 Dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue.
The cryptic entry I came across is the only information I was ever able to uncover, and it merely said:
HUGOTONTHEONBIQUIFFINARIANS. A society existing in 1748.
So. I have finally corrected an oversight. I have now purchased a hard copy of the 1811 Dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue!
Huzzah!

I have it on good authority that neither edition will self-destruct after perusal, but I am working on it!

I write a blog on 19th century history and have done several posts in the past on amusing words from the 1811 Dictionary. Except my blog is PG rated since I write for teens, so I couldn't use some of the more "colorful" words...

Very cool! Although I have browsed through it online, I can't wait for the hardcover to arrive, because it's just not the same!

>5 drneutron: So Will Steed first pointed out the entry in the book, then I think you said something like "we should really do this," so we doo-ed it!

>6 mrgrooism: A propos of which, has anybody heard of Will Steed lately? Or have the squirrels abducted him? He seems to have vanished off the face of the earth.
