Well, since it was requested! ;P Here's the thread to follow my little Aleksandra as she grows into a big girl of a Maine Coon. :)
I suppose I ought to start at the beginning!

This was her newborn shot posted, that I said I NEED THAT ONE!! to. :D
And with her siblings; her head is on her brother, the blues are her sisters. This is pretty much how she was when we went and met her, at a week old. Oh, and at this time she was already a nonstop talker, shouting her little lungs out! I was secretly hoping that wouldn't change as she grew, and it definitely hasn't! She trills to herself while she walks around and plays, let alone yelling at us when she wants anything. XD

Several days later - eyes opened!
With grandma (mama got sick only a couple weeks after they were born, but she's okay; grandma helped watch over them in the interim)

Ginormo ears already! XD
And while the siblings were getting cute pics playing, my doofus was sleeping in litter. XP

Always looking for trouble!

Pretty girl growing up

Monkey see monkey do, with Grandma Twinkel! XD And, Mama Snoepie & Papa Cupido. Given the angle/distance it's hard to tell, they look almost the same size, but she is just average, while he was over 8kg by 2 years when his little bio was written. I'm hoping my little goofball takes after her papa! ;)

There wasn't much to go on, haha, but I was hoping to find a tortie, as I think they're just lovely and have always wanted one. Of course I think nearly all coats are gorgeous and even the few I'm less keen on, I still don't dislike, they just aren't my favorites. :P But, since this was the one time where I was going to get a kitten from a breeder (my current 3 make 10 cats I've had, and the other 9 have all been taken in/adopted, as will future felines!), I was really wanting to find my "ideal" one, you know? And the others I'd been seeing posted that caught my eye were already taken. So I saw her and she was a tortie, or well, torbie, and all her little parts had blends of colors, her ears, her face, her legs, even her wee little nose, and I said that's the one for me!! XD It was fate!

It's always risky getting from breeders, you never know what the animal will grow up like, and only have their own word about "breeding for personality" and whatnot. So I was certainly nervous about how she'd wind up. And I was triply nervous when we went to pick her up and she hid under a dresser, and would have nothing to do with us, and the breeder got a big scratch when catching her out to bring her down to try and get friendly with us, where she stayed across the room the whole time!

This was her on the ride home from the breeder, 2 hours away. She was pretty calm in the car (in the house she'd been head-butting the top of the carrier (it's the nice carrying bag sort, not the clunky plastic boxes) wanting out) for the most part, and she'd let me pet her, but I think it was mostly because she was scared and had nowhere to go. After letting out at home, she hid behind the bookcase boxes for a bit, and then made her way to our bedroom, where she promptly hid under the bed for the next 3 days. During the nights she'd howl and scream her little heart out, calling for mama and siblings and aunts and whoever she could get, but there was no one. I felt so horrible! Kuma would sometimes come in the door, and Lexi would try to run over to her, FELINE!!, but Kuma would hiss and leave, and she was so sad! I managed to get her to take a couple pieces of food from my hand, while she stayed mostly under the bed. But she wasn't (and isn't) very adept at taking food from fingers, she tries to gobble your finger, lmao, so it was even more difficult to accomplish. XP I was in & out of the room, letting her be to come out when she wanted, not disrupting her much, while also making her aware that she had people, friendly people, who'd be there when she did want to come.

Finally on day 4 she started to get more curious about what was out of the bedroom, and she'd slink out and make her way behind the cat scratching post, and pop-up laundry basket, and actual laundry basket, before getting freaked out and rushing back. And then she started chasing a toy around and playing with it all up & down the hall. We had to be careful to not move much or she'd dart back in, lol. And then on day 6, I was alone with her while getting a hoodie, and she was walking around by my legs, so I reached down and...she let me pet her! And rubbed on my legs! And rubbed up against my hand! And then she claimed me as hers. XD

Lovely! Post new pictures any time!

I suffer a bit from jealousy - I adore my shelter cats, but if I ever got a pure-bred it would be a Maine Coon. They're just wonderful cats.

It had been killing us! Not only the new little cutie and unable to play with, but she was SO VERY SAD with no friends, so I was ecstatic when she finally let me give her some much needed affection! She is now very happy not only with me but with her furry best pal Nushie, they're always playing. She was so happy when Nush decided she was okay after all and started playing back with her! Nush had been very disinterested and unsure about the feisty little thing. She's rather scared of, well, a lot, hahaha, so it took her some getting used to the idea of this little critter pouncing at her all the time. But they're so cute now, Nushie clearly enjoys having a furry playmate. Kuma, of course, still wants nothing to do with either of them. "Gets along well with cats" my patootie! Oh well. She's a sweet kitty too, just not a kitty's kitty. :P

Loving the kitten/cat photos! I understand my nieces have 3 kittens they say are mine. I guess I should insist that they send photos.

This is how we spend much time. That's The Complete Sherlock I was reading...or being distracted from reading. ;P And Suttree from the uni library.

Yes, it is how she chooses to lay, all I do is support her head/weight! She loves being on her back like a baby/more upright leaning back. She's hilarious, which is why I'm always popping open the webcam to snap some shots of her while we sit here! XD

Every time I see a picture of a Maine Coon, I want one. My brother's family has one. It technically belongs to my niece, but it stays at my brother's house instead of hers.

She's my first, but I couldn't recommend them strongly enough based on her! She can be a handful, haha, but she's my sweet cuddlebug (though supposedly that's atypical, they're supposed to prefer being close by but not on; someone clearly forgot to give her the memo - my luck! :P) and she's a blast to have around. :))

Maine Coons are so wonderful! If I didn't have 4 cats I would think about it...

I had a cat that was part Maine Coon (I think). She was a rescue off the street. And she was wonderful. So affectionate, and liked to sit on back like Aleksandra above.

I'm sooooo jealous, too! I love torties and torbies and calicoes. I've always wanted a Maine coon, too, and I didn't even know they came in multi-colors!

My current cat is very, very territorial. I highly doubt she would accept another cat into the family, so I will just have to wait!

Sep 28, 2015, 8:26 am

>17 dkhiggin: Yep they're not one of the -only comes in points- or such cats, they're in any/every color type. :)

Lexi is one of three felines here, along with her buddy Nushka

and the anti-cat cat, Kuma

who is not at all pleased with her presence. I feel bad, she'd clearly be much happier as a solo cat, but that is NOT what was said about her, so there's really nothing to be done for it. They ignore/avoid each other enough where it'd not make sense to rehome her, there's no serious fighting/injuries or such. She just hisses when Lexi gets close/she has to walk by her, and will give a swat if she's in a more irritated mood. Lexi just rears back a bit and gives a rather amusing puzzled look, though clearly she ought to know better by now. But instead she will try to follow Kuma around, or leap at her if she's actually playing with a toy, or whatnot. She has zero fear, and not much more sense, LOL.

And I'm going to remember that I can get a calico Maine coon some day in the future.

Welp. Lest anyone try to forget that she is Trouble with a capital T, have a gander at her latest escapade:

which comes of knocking down Hubs' CISS for his printer. Not to mention the giant puddle of ink on the floor. D'oh!!

My sons often sport hair colors like that!

Sep 30, 2015, 9:32 am

Bahaha, yeah, in theory I think it'd be awesome, look at all that white belly wanting some dazzling up! XD But, printer ink is definitely not the way to go about it! I have no idea on the toxicity of the stuff. It's water-based, so hopefully not too bad, because as you can see, there's plenty I couldn't get cleaned myself (she HATES water, though Coons are supposed to enjoy it, even using a wet rag she was struggling to get away the whole time, I'd have preferred soap in the tub!), which with her obsessive grooming tendencies, she worked at thoroughly overnight. It's now much paler colors, heh. She seems none the worse for it, though, so I guess it's probably fine. Little bugger. XP

Awww what a cheeky Miss! Glad she is OK! & hope the puddle of ink wasn't too hard to clean off the floor either!

28.Monkey.
Oct 1, 2015, 6:45 am

Tedious, haha, but fortunately not a big deal, since the floor is that fake wood laminate kinda thing and it was done right away, so it cleaned up pretty easy with a little water.

As soon as we can catch them, I'm going to be the chief of staff for 3 kittens that were born in my brother's shop. We couldn't catch them this morning and get them in the pet taxi. They will continue to try to round them up this week as my sister-in-law, nieces, and my sister-in-laws sisters and nieces are coming up to my area to shop next weekend. Hopefully I'll have them by the weekend, but if not, it will probably be around Thanksgiving before I get custody!

>32 .Monkey.: They are really cute, but they go and hide under the old lawn mower in Jim's shop when they see you. They come out a bit longer if you feed them, but if you try to approach them, they run. Unfortunately Jim's shop has several places that are hard to "corner" them, and they seem to instinctively run to those when you "almost" catch them. One is ginger (or as my brother says "yellow") and white. The other two are gray and white.

Awww. Yeah it'll take them some time to get used to people. Food is definitely always a help!

>34 .Monkey.: I wish I'd thought of the toy I bought with the feather at the end of the line at the end of the pole. I had it in my car. I needed a new one because the feather on Brumley's is pretty much gone. I got a pretty sturdy one done by National Geographic that has a couple of other tips besides feathers which can be snapped on.

LOL it looks like he's just really enjoying the attention! And noooooooooo! If I tried to do that she would have my arms in ribbons! She is HORRIFIED of the bath (when there's water involved; she does like to hop into the empty tub xP) and shouts her horror for the world to know! Hahahahaha. She does seem to like being wrapped up in a towel after, though. XD
