Pride and Prejudice Peacock edition

Just thought this deserved a topic - Easton Press has released a copy of Pride and Prejudice (again) but this time with the Peacock covers:

http://www.eastonpress.com/prod/13D/PRIDE-AND-PREJUDICE_3082?cm_st=2&cm_s=ps...

One of my fav jumpers even has this book cover on it! http://www.outofprintclothing.com/collections/pride-and-prejudice/products/pride...

Although I've already got a copy of this book from the 100 greatest collection I might need to splash out on this one, since I already wear it everywhere. I'm desperately hoping it's a better quality reproduction than their latest Around the World in 80 Days. Ugh. I hate the digital mockups they use in place of photos on their website, they *really* need to post pics of the real thing.

I wholeheartedly agree. It is usually with fear and trembling that I open a new EP package waiting to see if the real thing proves disappointing. The only assurance and the only thing that keeps me coming back is the utter ease of returns with them.

Hmm...

I picked up a Peacock Edition (2nd trade, 1895) a while back for cheap (subsequently sold). Beautiful edition but the photos on the EP website aren't giving me any confidence. Did they even use gold? The photos make it look like they stamped it in yellow ink.

Anyone know if this is really limited and numbered?

>7 astropi: It is NOT LIMITED and NOT NUMBERED. It is a re-print of the facsimile edition from 2015.

Below I have enclosed a link to another 2015 post about the book:

8: Thanks! I didn't remember... turns out in 2018 I even noted
although technically since it's not a DLE, they could reprint it.

I like it when I'm right :)

>9 astropi: :D

It begs a question why Easton Press did not reprint The Little Women facsimile ahead of the movie release... They seem to be missing a lot of opportunities from movie tie-ins with all that buzz...

To Easton Press ;P - Dune movie premiere is scheduled for December 18th (so Holiday season, a week before Christmas...). It would be a terrific idea to have that Illustrated DLE out in time or at the very least re-print the 6-volume Dune Chronicles (any interest at 6x$99 or 6x$125?)...

Did anyone get the previous offering of this (2015) that can comment on the quality of the book? Is it a good clear printing? Any pictures would be great!

Looks like maybe no one has bought this edition since there have been no replies?

I'm really on the edge on this. I'm a huge Jane Austen fan, but $240 is a lot for a single book. Taking a close look at the pictures on the EP website leads me to wonder about the quality of the printing. AND, Dover reprinted this edition in a hardcover format in 2005, and can be had used like new for around $30. I've just ordered that through ABE as well as the Dover reprint of an 1899 edition of Sense and Sensibility. Pictures of the Dover P&P edition look very nice, but not the size of the EP edition at 8 x 10".

Of course I could just order it and return if I don't like it, but I'm just not sure it's worth the $$ in the first place. Any opinions?

Item #3082 - Pride and Prejudice (Peacock Edition) is back again on the EP website:

https://www.eastonpress.com/all-categories/literature/pride-and-prejudice-3082.h...

If you are interested, I strongly suggest placing your order soon because EP's website says that this is a pre-order scheduled to ship on April 2022. My guess is that they are only producing a limited batch based on the number of preorders.

This book recently sold for $359 yesterday, $399.99 on December 12th, and $299.99 on November 15th, all on ebay. EP is currently selling it for $236 with the option of four monthly installments.

I hope this information helps for those who are interested.

About Me:
I am a new collector who recently discovered this website. I found the information shared by this group to be very helpful, especially Wootle's listing of EP's Deluxe Limited Editions. Thus, I want to give back to this community by sharing the information above.

>14 JayBooker: I feel bad for the person who bought it on 1/2/2022 for $699. Given it’s beauty, fame, popularity and the fact that it is not a limited edition I suspect this will remain in the EP catalog periodically as a print on demand deluxe edition.

>15 HugoDumas: If you click on "2 Sold" you will see that it indeed sold on the 2nd, but for $359. After the purchase, seller updated the price to the current $699. One quirk with eBay bulk listings (quantity available greater than one) is that while displaying the Sold items, eBay shows current price for the remaining copies rather than the price at which the previous copies sold...

>15 HugoDumas: I agree with >16 EPsonNY:. I found it odd when suddenly the latest sale became $699. At first I thought it was a system glitch. I am so glad that EP re-released the peacock edition since I am a new collector. I immediately placed my order after seeing it.

I haven't checked all the other topics on this group yet so I am not sure if this was already discussed. I realized that Hugh Thomson (the illustrator for the peacock edition) also illustrated Jane Austen's other novels. His illustrations were collected in another book called "Jane Austen Complete Novels, Collector's Library Edition." This book was made by another publisher. I also bought that book to see his other illustrations. However, I don't think he made illustrations for the first letter of each chapter for the other novels like he did for the peacock edition of P&P. That makes the peacock edition more special.

>16 EPsonNY: that’s too bad since I use sold to assess market value of books when I am selling.

>17 JayBooker: a wise purchase. If I were younger I would get it. Btw the H.M. Brock illustrations in the Austen red leather editions are lovely.

>18 HugoDumas: the Brock illustrations look good. Thanks for letting me know. I also like the illustrations of Chris Hammond for Sense and Sensibility. Her illustrations can be found in a Sense & Sensibility book published by Dover in 2010.

The link below shows some examples of her illustration.
