Dear Group,

I'm just watching a TV Doco. on the above William Marshall.

WOW

There seem to be many books about this man I had never heard of. And I have just realized is important!

As a Chess lover I keep finding more info that amazes me.

Does my group have a good/definitive book about him you would recommend?

Guido.

ETA. Perhaps this post shouldn't be here. But I can't seem to find a Medieval on LT?

Thanks >2 AndreasJ:!

Do you have any thoughts on William Marshall?

I might join the above 2 groups, although I prefer to only join groups I might be usefull to.

ETA. I am watching both groups.

I don't know much about William Marshal. There's a newish book about him called The Knight Who Saved England which seems to be getting mixed reviews.

If you have french, you can find a partial translation of his biography on archive.org; search for
creator:"Meyer, Paul, 1840-1917"

I think the translation is in vol. 2 or 3.

The Crouch book mentioned in the first post is considered the best, most up-to-date book. Keep in mind I haven't read it and Routledge books are often fairly academic.

Thomas Asbridge has a good book called The Greatest Knight: William Marshal, The Power Behind Five English Thrones. I read it a few months ago.
