Hi all,
As I was scrolling through the discussion groups, I noticed that there weren't many that were aimed at the main literary prize groups. I know that Canada Reads is always closely followed here in Canada.
I thought this would be a great spot to discuss the next round of books when they come out. I don't know when the new titles are announced each year, but I know that there's always a lot of lively attention paid to the selections. I also like that it's regular folks that pick the books in the sense that the are not literary critics. In spite of the celebrity status of the people making the selections, they are just readers like the rest of us, defending their favorite book for the status book of the year.
I made up a list that I carry in my purse of all the Canada Reads selections for the 5 or so years it's been running, and all the giller prize nominees and winners and the booker prize nominees and winners. When I visit the second hand bookstore, I keep my eyes out for these titles. I know I could go to the library, but I like to "own" my books and not borrow them. If I bought new at the rate I read, I'd be broke fast (I average 5 or 6 books a week)
So jump in and talk about Canada Reads past winners/selections and what book you'd choose if you had the chance. I know I'd have a hard time picking one, but I have a few that are at the top of my list. What is your favorite Canada Reads selection for the 5 (I think) years that it's been running?? If you want to see the past selections here's the link.

So everyone jump in and tell us what your favorite CR book is!

I was driving to the drug store today and heard bits and pieces of the new season of Canada Reads. I'll be posting the books and the people that selected them shortly - as soon as I get a chance to get to the website and condense it all down to one concise post. In the meantime, if you are interested in and advanced look go to http://www.cbc.ca/canadareads/books.html
ttyl - I'm hoping we can get some real discussions going here on some of these very interesting looking choices.
