LOA's two recently released volumes of American musical stage productions cover a span of 43 years (23 years in vol. 1 inclusive and 20 in vol.2). It has been 45 years since the last of the published plays, 1776, released in 1969, and one would hope that there would have been enough quality material for another volume of more recent plays since then.
Yesterday, I saw Disney's new movie version of Stephen Sondheim's 1987 Into the Woods, somewhat modified for the screen but still emotionally powerful. It reminded me of how fabulous the original was on stage. I think it would be a terrific candidate for inclusion in a third or later volume of a continuing series of American musicals from LOA.
What other candidates would anyone like to suggest?
