January is almost here, so it's time to tell us what you plan to read for Orange January. I'll read Burial Rites by Hannah Kent, which was shortlisted for the 2014 Bailey's Women's Prize for Fiction.

I have 22 possibilities in my TBR but not sure which it will be yet. In 2014 I read 7, and I liked most of them.

Thanks for the reminder. I've got a couple of Bailey's around here to pick from. I had great fun last year with the long/short list and will probably use that as my reading list this spring, depending on what the library gets in.

I did make some Bailey's Fudge with Pistachios over Christmas, and I'm sharing with all of you:

I may read The Lowland, which made the shortlist in 2014. I have a copy of it on my shelves.

>3 raidergirl3: - Wow, that fudge just might entice me to search my shelves for some Orange Bailey reads. As you can see, I am still struggling a bit with the name change for the award. Makes me appreciate more clearly now why my parents used to always refer to 'so-and-so" house as the previous owners until a number of years had passed by. ;-)

Thanks Darryl for reviving this group! I was mostly absent in 2014, but I read the winner (A Girl is a Half-Formed Thing), and read 3 books in 2013 that ended up on the 2014 short list. I thought the short list was especially strong. >1 kidzdoc: reminded me of my interest in reading Burial Rites, which I'll borrow from my library's e-book collection.

I plan to read Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's Americanah.

>3 raidergirl3: That fudge does look good, but a shot of Bailey's over ice would suit me better. It goes very well with reading. I'll take my pistachios on the side, please!

I hope to find time for Five Quarters of the Orange from the 2002 longlist.

The Luminaries and Burial Rites are both Kindle Daily Deals today.

I am currently engaged in the exercise of looking at the longlists over the years. If my library has an ebook version, I'm adding it to my LT library and tagging it. Except for Bel Canto, I've been pleased with every Orange book I've read.

I am in the middle of The Signature of All Things. It seems unlikely I'll finish today, so that one is definite.

Other than that, I'm hopeful that I'll read The Burgess Boys this month. I read a few pages and dropped it a while ago. I loved Olive Kitteridge so I want to try again.

I might also try for MaddAdam or The Blind Assassin.

I'm glad to see the Orange/Bailey's interest reviving. That fudge looks delicious, Elizabeth. My first book of the year will be The Ghost Road, OP Longlist 1996 and *Bonus* Booker Prize 1995! It's about time I completed the Regeneration Trilogy!

I was able (very happily) to keep up with Orange January & July plus kidzdoc's Orange a Month challenge in 2014 and I hope to do the same in 2015. My first will most likely be The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt from the library. It is awaiting my pick-up as we speak. Then I plan to read The Lowland by Jhumpa Lahiri. I don't, as of yet know what will come next.

Carrie; Five Quarters of the Orange by Joanne Harris is a wonderful read. I hope you enjoy it.

That fudge and the Baileys both look so good. Ummm, I love Baileys in my coffee but don't do it often.

Enjoy your reads folks and remember: Vitamin C is so good for you!

I'm really glad that you all are over here. I need to get busy on a thread, but my plan is to start with Burial Rites as soon as it comes in the mail. I missed the Kindle deal - had already ordered a hard copy for less than $5, so I guess I can't complain. I've also ordered The Undertaking, which has me a bit antsy. We'll see.
Many thanks for that fudge!

I did finish The Signature of All Things today. I liked this sprawling novel spanning the entire life of a 19th century female botanist quite a bit more than I expected. It really came to life for me when Alma started her examination of moss. I never would have guessed reading about moss would be so exciting.

Things turn on a dime don't they? While waiting for the weekend to end so I could pick up The Goldfinch at the library, I began Burial Rites which was shortlisted last year and it is a doozie so far. I really like it! THEN I will read The Goldfinch.

I was going to read Goldfinch as well! Maybe we can chat afterwards :)

Perhaps we can bucket. I am just 80 pages in but am really liking it a LOT.

I'm reading Burial Rites now. It's dark but it took no time for me to be sucked in.

Same, lauralkeet, I started it yesterday and I haven't been very productive today because I keep sitting down to read some more.

The Memory of Love by Aminatta Forna, shortlisted in 2011, is the Kindle Daily Deal for $1.99. It was a 5 star read for me. Here is the link.

Laura & ram; I loved that book. It totally fascinated me! I hope that both of you care about it at least half as much as I did!

>22 nancyewhite::
Nancy, another one to love! Mmmm, Vitamin C is so good for us!~! Hope you love it too.

So far I have read Burial Rites (5+*) & The Goldfinch (4*) (both shortlisted last year) for Orange January and today will begin The Idea of Perfection which won the Orange Prize in 2001. Hopefully by the time I finish that one Ursula, Under (Orange L/L, 2005) will be here from the library. And that will most likely complete my Orange January.
