As I was adding book covers to the site, I came across this work. There are some lovely covers here. Right now, I only have time to add my modern Thomas Kinkade version, but I will add my tattered version later. In the mean time, feel free to add your favorites! Here's hoping I figured out how to add the image correctly.

I hadn't actually cataloged this one. I can't remember now whether it has been in our family awhile or not, but from the inscription, I think not. I probably found it at a yard sale, thrift shop or library sale. It is interesting to me, because the family name "Mars" is in my family tree, but it doesn't go back very far. I wonder if I am distantly related to the illustrator.

Sadly, the cover is not in great shape. I love her dress. There is a glossary in the back for all the difficult words. :)

What's the year on that one, MrsLee ?

The illustrations reminded me of a Dutch artist I think you all will like, Rie Cramer

Pawing through the covers available here, I found this one from Amazon:

and I'm intrigued. There is no illustrator listed, but my library seems to have a copy and attributes Donna Green. I've got it on order.

This is the copy my children had (long gone, aw!). It appears to be the same or similar to the one displayed in post 2:

From 1934:

Illustrations by E. Mars and M.H. Squire (no touchstone)

And this lovely edition from 1902...I'm not yet sure on the illustrator:

This is the cover of my old Puffin version. (Well, actually, it is my brother's book, but if no one mentions it to him, he won't think of it.) It has been well-loved.

I don't care for it. It would certainly appeal more to an adult than a child, I think.

I'm still a child.
