I'm not a homeschooler, but I want to homeschool my children (when I have some!). I've done some research in homeschooling, from a library point of view (what services to offer, what resources to offer, etc.). Would it be okay if I joined too? :)

Folks interested in Homeschooling may also be interested in the Raising Readers group; not limited to homeschoolers, but focused on raising readers generally.

Hi fellow homeschoolers! I just got back online after being off a couple of days and discovered the "groups" feature... It was nice to already find one for homeschoolers!! I know there are a few LTers who homeschool because we've discussed it on the http://www.ahomeforhomeschoolers.com/forum/ the other day. I'll have to tell them about this group. If you haven't discovered that forum you might stop by and see us. We're a friendly bunch.

Do y'all have a book about homeschooling to recommend to new hsers? My favorite book about homeschooling is Educating the WholeHearted Child.

I recommend the book by Susan Wise The Well Trained Mind for those interested in a classical education

Hi all.
I was hoping someone would start a group so I could join it :-)

I've been homeschooling 20+ years and at least 8 more years to go. I have been collecting books all of my life and eventually I hope to open a homeschool library in our region of central Maryland. My special love is historical fiction and I am always on the lookout for the pre-1970 books when I go to yard sales, book sales and thrift stores. Much of what is more recent is readily available in the public library so I try not to keep up with them.

I started a private LT group (Central Maryland Homeschool Library) for the purpose of introducing my local homeschool support group to Librarything and to make my books available to them for loan. After I see how it goes on a small scale (I've never done a group before) I may open it for public membership if there is interest.

Hi homeschool booklovers! We have been homeschooling our two boys for 10 years now. I have been collecting books to stock our home library since then. My dh loves books and has a couple of book shelves for his books.

We primarily home educate using living literature and living nonfiction. Currently we are using Tapestry of Grace which is a guide to a classical education using wonderful living books. It is my goal to find these books now and stock them in our home library. I have tagged what I have so far with TOG. I attempt to do this by freqenting library sales, rummage sales, garage sales, trift shops etc... I also buy from other homeschoolers on the web.

I look forward to sharing book info with you all and if you are interested in discussing the library side of a home educational library I started a group for that called homeschool home libraries.

Thanks and Blessings, Laurie

Hi everyone.

I suppose I am the baby of the group. I've only been homeschooling our 2 boys and 1 girl for 6 years. Before that, they went to a private school.

I have been collecting books all my life. I buy modern books, but my heart lies in books published before 1970. Before the age of everything being politically correct that is. We tried to start a homeschool library here in east central Florida, but we found many people to be dishonest and take the books never to return them, so, sadly we had to stop. I now sell the books we don't use or want anymore on Amazon.

Previously we have used A Beka, Bob Jones and living books. This year I switched them to Christian Light and ACE/SOT. This takes a lot of stress off the kids and myself. I guess I don't have a lot of patience when it comes to grading papers.

Blessings,
Mary

Hi fellow LT homeschoolers! Yes, it would be nice to see a list of everyone's favorite homeschooling books.

I've been homeschooling for 10 years now.... I think I have about 16 years left to go! I use a classical (or neo-classical, depending on your point of view!) curriculum.

I'm a former public school teacher with an MA in education. I am always amazed at the great number of former school teachers who homeschool!

Hello, I'm new to LibraryThing and to this group. I'm homeschooling my son and daughter, both under 5. We're just getting started and are about a year into this venture. I'm looking forward to learning from those who've been on this journey a while.

Thanks,

Leslie

Well, the ACE/SOT didn't work with my boys. It seems nothing ever does. My 8 yo gets bored with every curriculum and he hates anything repetetive, so he is behind in math and reading because of this. He also seems to have no motivation, whatsoever. I am going to start KONOS with them next month.

Has anyone else here ever used it and if so, how did it go? I have to get these boys up to grade level by May and they are a year behind.

I am so tired of going from curriculum to curriculum every year. They have used everything under the sun and nothing seems to work!

Hello all!! I'm new to the group and a relative newbie to homeschooling-only four years now. I have one son and two daughters. We use a little of everything, Bob Jones, Mathusee, and Apologia Astronomy. Love it, its a lot of fun.

CAn't wait to see your libraries. I'm in the process of posting my books now.

Hello Homeschoolers! I'm new to LT and this group. My dd (almost 11), dh, and I are of the unschooling sort. We three love books and always appreciate recommendations.

I'll be slowly posting our titles, and I look forward to seeing your titles.

I'm so excited about finding LT! This is just where I need to be!

Hello! I've just joined LT, cause my home library is out of control and REALLY needs to be sorted out (14 bookcases, plus boxes in the attic and basement.)

I'm in my third year of "formally" homeschooling my 8yo DS. We're eclectic to the extreme in our approach, taking bits and bobs from everywhere, throwing them all together, and seeing what sticks. It's worked so far!

I've managed to catalogue 4 shelves of the nearest bookcase so far, and will be starting on the HSing materials soon. Looking forward to seeing everyone's lists!

I have been homeschooling for 2 years. I have four children from 5 to infant (including twins). I feel so blessed to be able to homeschool. It has really been a positive experience for our family not to mention our children's education (as well as mine!). I love learning along with my children. I love seeing the "spark" they have. My husband comments that you don't see that spark with kids that are in class all day long.

I am excited to be able to catalog my resources online and take a peek at what others have in their libraries. Homeschooling sure takes up a lot of space though!
